EXCLUSIVE FOR DOMINICAN TODAY

JARABACOA, Dominican Republic.- MotoCarbie is not just a group of motorcyclists driving around the Dominican Republic, but more like an incredibly well organized, all inclusive resort on two wheels.  Or more like twenty-eight wheels once you count the van pulling all of your luggage, the trailer with tools, equipment, and even a spare Suzuki V-Strom 650 in the back.  All following up to nine motorcycles guided by a lead driver and followed by a solution to every possible “what if”.

The company has been going on tours for a year now, taking people from places such as Toronto to Portland, Costa Rica to Germany all over on what the president of the company, Robert Cooper claims to be “a true Dominican experience.  So many people come here and get a European or American experience in a different country.  We are giving them an honest to goodness Dominican experience with the culture, food, music, dance, not homogenized by people wearing costumes,” says Cooper.

The tour company is run by Cooper, his wife Alida Olivo, and their business partner, Ed Denzler.  “She has taught me everything I know about this place,” Cooper from Atlanta says regarding his wife and the country.  Olivo is from Santiago and takes care of the scheduling, making sure resorts are ready for the group and meals are prepared at the places they take the tour to.  “We stay away from the big chains and the heavily marketed, we like to find the hidden channel of resorts and places.  We like to o off the beaten path to places that a lot of Dominicans don’t even know about,” says Cooper.  Denzler does the marketing from his home in New Jersey and comes down for the tours to be the lead driver while Cooper and his wife follow with supplies in the van.

Based out of Jarabacoa, the tours ranges in the number of days you can go from single day rides to seven-day trips.  Everything is taken care of and arranged from the moment you arrive at the Santiago airport to the return to Santiago seven days later.  Every ride and route is planned from meals to accommodations, even having a list of every hospital and clinic along the way (which they have been fortunate enough to not have visited).  Organized does not even begin to describe how carefully planned these trips are to ensure safety, quality, and a relaxed, good time for the riders.
