SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominican Export and Investment Center (CEI-RD) and three cinema associations signed a agreement aimed at spurring jointly Hispaniola Island’s film industry.

CEI-RD director Eddy Martinez and Claude Mancuso, of Haiti’s Cinema Association (AHC) agreed that the project is part of a wider strategy, aiming at effectively support is the audio-visual and cinema industries in Dominican Republic and Haiti.

“This project arises because the Dominican Republic and Haiti economies have always been relatively gifted with natural resources and manpower, highly dependent on international trade to generate new and better economic opportunities, productive growth and jobs,” Martinez said.

Mancuso said the agreement seeks to contribute to develop the private sector in Dominican Republic and Haiti, by helping the film and audio-visual industry, and by bolstering the capacities of both countries.

Peggy Cabral, of the Dominican film association ADOCINE, and Pietro Pomari, of the Italy-based ANICA, also signed the agreement .
