Santo Domingo.- Dominican Tourism minister Francisco Javier Garcia was recognized for a 7% increase in tourist arrivals from “emerging countries” and a 65% jump in arrivals on cruise ships, resulting from intensive ad campaigns by Tourism offices abroad, and other efforts aimed at targeting Dominican expatriates, in the new public relations campaign, “Dominican Republic has it all.”

The hoteliers grouped in Asonahores also lauded Garcia for the country receiving the internationally coveted award “2009 Number one Golf Destination” for Latin America and the Caribbean, “Best Caribbean Destination” by “Weekly” magazine and the British Tour Operators for the “substantial increase” in hygiene levels in all hotels and frequented tourist spots.

The hotels Grand Oasis Marién, Iberostar Costa Dorada and Natura Park obtained the “Blue Flag” awards which guarantees swimmers that the beach’s strict compliance with international ecofriendly guidelines, as well as the presence of a lifeguard, ambulance and first aid emergency care in all ports or beaches.

The hotels Barceló Bávaro Casino, Sirenis Tropical Suites, Casa de Campo, Bahía Príncipe Clubs & Resorts, and Tortuga Bay also obtained the “Safety First” certifications.
