Santo Domingo. – The Business Council of the Duarte pedestrian way on Monday hailed a proposal to allow parking in Chinatown from 12 noon was 6 a.m., a measure expected to be approved by the City Council

Commission executive director Magdalena Diaz said the initiative will be submitted to the City Council tomorrow Tuesday, and would ease the friction which arose with the ban on parking in that zone, as demanded by the Retailers and Professionals Association.

Its president, Juan Paniagua, said at the beginning of March the round-the-clock parking ban sponsored by the mayor Salcedo Roberto led caused to several shuttered and bankrupt businesses of the zone. “Due to the lack of parking in Chinatown the customers have stayed away and led to a slump in sales, which have fallen more than 60 percent.”

I do not think the business down in so called Chinatown is due to Parking lot.. Take a look those Chinatown in the other countries, no parking lot...but still crowd.

The reasons , I think and believe:
1. rent too expensive
2. lack of attraction which target the most regular Dominicans
3. service attitude toward customers
4. how DR government would help , promote the area, and facilitate all bureaucratic works...

I enjoy the small China town in the capital and I think it is worth expanding and promoting ,,yes the parking is a little difficult and the neighbourhood is not the safest at night but there are some good restaurants . It is just at the top of Duarte before you cross Ave Mexico , if you are walking up the hill away from Mercedes ..
