Santo Domingo.- President Leonel Fernandez Tuesday night headed inaugural of a shopping center of international chain Blue Mall, calling its opening a sign of the country’s progress and modernization.

“At this stellar moment in Dominican Republic’s development we are here in this modern building’s inaugural and in this manner continues its journey of progress and modernity in the 21st century,” said the Head of State, in the company of the First Lady Margarita Cedeño.

The chief executive raised the curtains to mark the start of business for the numerous stores and service providers in the Mall, located on the corner of the avenues Churchill and Mejía Ricart.

Fernandez and his wife toured the facilities with the owners Luis Emilio Velutini Urbina and Luis Carlos Serra Carmona, and business leaders and government officials.

Mr. President -- while I actually like you personally -- although I hate the corruption that you've allowed to plague the "Party" (PLD) -- I want to point out the obvious to you: "the Capital" is completely saturated. My thought is that you should now focus some of your initiatives toward Santiago. Call me crazy but if you do that the great likelyhood exists that you will get that "balager" legacy you're looking for. Like I said -- call me crazy.

Sir,

Does this fancy mall mean there will finally be reliable electricity and potable water? The Bronx Santo Domingo isn't ... let's work on the real issues first. Boy do I love Krispy Kreme, but Sir I beg you, please get your priorities straight. The LAST thing this country needs is a designer, emporium mall, when 95% of your population live in conditions that would rival those of your neighbor...call me crazy, but traffic lights that work, water that is drinkable, and public schools that are decent would be my priorities. Perhaps if you succeed in getting your constitution amended and you get to be President again, you can work the issues that count.

Yours fondly,
Senior General Than Shwe, Commander-in-Chief of the Tatmadaw and chairman of the State Peace and Development Council
