PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic.- Blue Diamond Hotels & Resorts, a division of the leading tourism company in the United States, Sunwing Travel Group, announced the acquisition of Grand Paradise Bavaro Beach Resort, Casino & Spa, located in the destination of Bavaro, in Dominican Republic's east coast.
Blue Diamond's team will operate the resort which will continue to be managed as Grand Paradise Bavaro Beach Resort until April 30, 2013. On that date the resort will close for six months to complete renovation, with changes and improvements to raise its level of standards to the Blue Diamond chain’s "Memories Resorts."
The resort will reopen November 2013 as "Memories Punta Cana Beach Resort and Spa" with a 5-star category.
This acquisition is Blue Diamond’s second resort owned and operated by the chain, after the recent acquisition of Breezes Trelawny, Jamaica, which was owned by Super Clubs. This resort is currently being renovated at a cost of US$40 million before reopening as "Memories White Sands Beach Resort & Spa" later this year.
"With the increase in demand for Punta Cana and the shortage of available rooms, this target was the obvious choice for the next expansion of our hotel division," said Stephen Hunter, President & CEO of Sunwing Travel Group. "This is a resort already popular in a unrivaled location in front of a perfect white sand beach and we have ambitious plans to differentiate the resort under the Memories brand next year."
