Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s Portland cement makers grouped in Adocem on Tuesday announced the 31st annual  Technical Congress 2014 to be held in the country, hosted by the Inter-American Cement Federation (Ficem-Apcac).

Adocem president Carlos Emilio González said the event slated from September 8 to 11 will bring together around 300 Latin American cement industry representatives.

González, who’s  also president of Cemex Dominicana, said the recent constructions of public schools across the country has meant a  big push for the cement industry, with a US$600.0 million economic movement and current exports of 30% of its production of around 7.0 million metric tons.

In a press conference, the executive said the industruy’s xpected growth is of around 15% at yearend 2014 and stressed that local demand has jumped 25% since last year.
