Cemex Dominicana, Educa aim to technically train youth to join labor force

Santo Domingo.- Cemex Dominicana and the Business Action for Education (Educa) on Tuesday signed an agreement which aims to improve the quality of technical training and creating opportunities for youth to join the labor force.

Educa president Elena Viyella said the three-year agreement is part of the project Quisqueya Believes in You, of the international alliance New Employment Opportunities (NEO-RD), that will include 13 provinces. Quisqueya Believes in You looks tp impact 32,000 vulnerable young people ages 15 to 29.

This agreement aims to improve infrastructure of polytechnics located in vulnerable areas, training activities and internships and contracts in Cemex, depending on the cement-maker’s demand.

"We want students to learn well, to learn things that will serve them and want to put them into practice," said Cemex Dominicana president Carlos E. González, who noted that from now on companies will compete based on the knowledge and how quickly their members learn.

In the polytechnics to intervene Educa, Cemex will provide building materials for infrastructure improvements.
