Sourcing at magic with Haiti’s and Dominican Republic’s textile and apparel sector

Santo Domingo.- Within the framework of the 10th EuropeanDevelopment Fund (EDF) Haiti-Dominican Republic Bi-national Programme, theCaribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) partnered with theCentre for the Facilitation of Investment of Haiti (CFI), and the Centre forthe Promotion of Export and Investment of the Dominican Republic (CEI-RD) toparticipate at the Sourcing at Magic 2016 fair held in Las Vegas, Nevada fromAugust 14-17, 2016.

Heralded as North America’s largest and most comprehensiveapparel sourcing event, connecting the entire global supply chain of thefashion industry, Sourcing at Magic was the ideal occasion for Haiti andDominican Republic to increase visibility for their textile and apparel sector,as well as build awareness about trade and investment opportunities availablein both countries.

This activity is also a part of the implementation of theJoint Investment Promotion Strategy (JIPS), which was developed to attractForeign Direct Investment (FDI), and facilitate diversification intovalue-added production of fashion accessories.

Visitors of SOURCING at MAGIC 2016 were introduced to theunique and creative forms of garments available to them from the Haitian andthe Dominican textile and apparel industry, thereby enabling the CFI and CEI-RDto explore new business opportunities and engagement with potential investors,particularly from the United States and Latin America.

This mission also served to strengthen the links and collaborationwith the Dominican Association of Chacabanas and hence contributing to thepromotion of this high value added product from the Caribbean in representationof the Caribbean.
