Santo Domingo.- Once the Free Trade Agreement with the US and Central America (DR-CAFTA) is implemented, various categories of vehicles and transport and parts equipment, will enter the country free of duty charges, according to the Industry and Commerce Ministry.

Such vehicles as tractors, ambulances, funeral cars, as well as dump trucks, and certain small diesel or semi-diesel vehicles of up to 1,500 cc; will be exempt.

Article 3.3 of the DR-CAFTA text in Chapter 87 makes reference to the exclusion from duty taxes.

Also included in the exemptions list are mobile homes, scooters, small-engine motorcycles of up to 250cc, wheelchairs, and parts thereof.  Per the DR-CAFTA, taxes on transport vehicles will be dismounted in up-to 10 year periods, depending on their passenger capacity.
