Santo Domingo.- The industrial sector is convinced that the crisis entailed by a detrimental energy supply and elevated costs is the principal challenge it faces in acquiring the necessary competitive standards in light of the forthcoming implementation of the Free Trade Agreement with Central America and the United States (DR-CAFTA).

Industrialists Yandra Portela, Jesus Moreno and Ignacio Mendez, coincided yesterday in that the Government should seek a quick and definitive solution to the energy problem, in addition to placing more emphasis in improving the amount and quality of investment in education.

The industrialists expressed their viewpoints during a workshop organized by INTEC University on the impact that the DR-CAFTA is expected to have on the sector.

YOU MUST BE KIDDING..RIGHT. IT'S BEEN GOING ON FOR THE LAST 40 PLUS YEARS. NOW THEY COME TO REALIZE THAT YOU NEED ELECTRICITY IN ORDER TU BE COMPETATIVE IN THE "CIVILIZED WORLD". WITHOUT LIGHT YOU CAN'T READ AND LEARN 24 HOURS, WITHOUT LIGHT YOU DON'T HAVE POWER TO PRODUCE, NO PRODUCING = NO JOBS. DO THE MATH PEOPLE...JUST TURN ON THE JUICE AND SEE HOW LEARNING & PRODUCTION INCREASES WHICH I'LL BET WILL HAVE A GREAT IMPACT ON EDUCATION & JOBS. CAN'T YOU SEE THE LIGHT YET..? COME ON NOW.....

The Dr is awash in potential biomass energy. Proposals exist to develop these potentials, which would make reliable electricity available in many underserved areas, and would go a long way towards reversing the migration of tenants OUT of the free zones, due to the present high cost and unreliability of electric power service.

The first writer has it right. DR can NOT advance until this problem is addressed. President Fernandez knows this, and is working to solve the problem as politics allo
