SANTO DOMINGO. –the governing PLD party spokesman in the Chamber of Deputies, Elías Serrule, yesterday suggested that that organism urgently approve legislation of incentives to develop renewable energy sources, in view of the crisis of petroleum’s price hikes.

He feels that passing that law would allow foreign and local investors to develop the planned ethanol and biodiesel projects, adding that besides creating a large number of jobs in the country it would also contribute to replace up to 20% of the oil bill.

In his opinion, the legislation would establish the legal framework to install renewable energy projects in the country, such as ethanol and biodiesel.

Serulle feels that faced with the petroleum’s price hikes at the international level, proceeding with a vision of nation is required. "Nations such as Dominican Republic must adopt measures in the short and medium terms that contribute to making our dependency petroleum less of a burden and that helps us to find other ways to produce energy," said Serulle.

The legislator said that ethanol and biodiesel would be a way to cushion the effects  of petroleum’s price hikes.

It would behoove the DR Government to encourage the extensive development of manufacturing of Wind Generators, Solar Panels and Water Wheel Generators as a source of Energy for the Electrical sector. The mountain tops of the North Coast, the plains of the Western Sector and the myriad of streams and rivers within the DR are ideal places to place such ventures and plants. The impact is limited only by the imagination of the Government in solving the problems.
Biodeisel and Ethanol alone not all,

Sr Jimenez--- Like always, you don't do your research, you merely critisize the condition and offer nothing in return.
Brazil has an extensive ethanhol industy that has been in existance for quite some time. In adition, they hav off-shore oil rigs which are providing the infrastructure with the oil needed within country.
The DR has neither the ethanhol industy nor the oil reserve with which to alleviate the shortfall in consumption and production and thus must dependon outside sources for suc

Mr. Adams, I really agree with mr Jimenez, maybe we don't have the gas reserve but we have ours minds and a huge agricultural history that we can start a ethanol or biodisel industry without troubles is only the will that is need it.
Thanks Good is alredy in his way, there are people like who write that are helping to developed a investigation on how to produce biodisel in santiago, with alcohol and soda scortica as main material, like jimenez said why not

For some reason the powers that be do not want to eleviate the power problem. The Solar energy exoneration bill has been waiting approval for over 20 years. Tell me why ??? The country is one of the best suited for Solar. Solar energy after customs and ITIBI and what ever more thay can invent to impede solar makes this the most expensive country in the worls to develope this technology.
