SANTO DOMINGO.- Dominican Republic Export and Investment Center (CEI-RD) director Eddy Martinez said about 496 new products have become part of the country’s exports. He said from January to October 2006 about 2,307 products were exported, compared with 2,800 this year.
He said Dominican exports climbed 45 percent in the 10 months this year, as 647 new companies began exporting products from January to October. From the 1,200 exporters registered between January and October 2006, the number jumped to 1,700 in that same 2007 period.
Martinez said in that period the country posted US$573.9 million more in exports in 2006, from US$1.26 billion, to US$1.83 billion in 2007.
Traditional products such as minerals rose 75.6 percent in that period, from US$528.3 million to US$927.9 million, the CEI-RD chief said, whereas nontraditional exports rose 29.6 percent, going from US$577.8 million to US$749.3 million.
Martinez added that from January to October the export of sugar derivatives fell 8.5 percent, going US$116.9 million in 2006 to US$106 million in 2007.

I agree, hopefully ;-))) The last data shows a big difference to that numbers. I hope that is not only a part of the election campaign.
