SANTO DOMINGO.- The gasoline station owners grouped in Anadegas yesterday filed a suit of  unconstitutionality before the Supreme Court, against the decree which grants a three-month subsidy on diesel for passenger and freight transport.

Anadegas president Juan Ignacio Espaillat said he asked the high court to declare unconstitutional decree 677-07, issued by president Leonel Fernandez last week, as in their view violates several articles of the constitution.

The suit argues that the decree’s application leads to serious obstructions and financial damages to the fuel market and to the owners of gas stations.

It says the Executive Branch’s decree is a government tax exemption on regular diesel as of this week, at a cost of RD$31.58 million monthly, which jeopardizes the current vendors of that fuel.
