SANTO DOMINGO.- This Tuesday morning the issue of a wage increase for the private sector workers is again the center of talks in the campus of the Dominican Catholic University (PUCMM), where its president monsignor Agripino Núñez will mediate between business  and labor to seek a formula that satisfies both parts.

Though the business sector has revealed that it goes to the bargaining table with great optimism, it reiterated its proposal of an increase not greater than 12 percent, amount that would benefit only the employees who earn the minimum wage. Its initial proposal was 9.30%.

The unionists have eased their demand of a 25% increase for salaries up to RD$3,000 and despite their insistence on that percentage, would agree for it to be prorated.

Also attending today’s round, slated for 10:00 a.m., will be Labor minister Jose Ramon Fadul.
