New York.- Dominican president Leonel Fernández has expressed his satusfaction at the news from the White House that the proposed taxes on tobacco would be vetoed.

The president said that this would come as a great relief to thousands of Dominican families who make a living from tobacco cultivation and cigar production and exports.

Fernández said that he felt extremely satisfied, especially as this concern had been one of the main reasons for his visit to Washington and his meeting with deputy secretary of state John Negroponte, trade representative Susan Schwab and congressman Elliot Engels.

Just as a warning. "The job isn't finished 'til the paperwork is done".
With that, I'll warn further about the Liberal Democrat Representatives and Senators in the US Congress.
These people, like the same Legislators here in the DR,collectively, are bent on forcing legislation down the throats of the Public, whether they want it or not! They need additional taxation to support their agenda of BIG GOVERNMENT and will continue to raise the taxes on "SIN PRODUCTS" to achieve that purpose.
