Santo Domingo.-  Agriculture minister Salvador Jíménez said on Thursday that a commission of Haitian specialists will come to examine the situation in the country’s chicken farms.

The technicians aim to determine if Dominican chickens are free of the bird flu virus, to recommend whether Port-au-Prince maintains or lifts the ban on poultry imports.

Jiménez said the Haitian delegation will be in the country in the next few days and that it’s expected to render its report immediately.

The official said an understanding between the authorities from both countries would facilitate an end to the crisis in cross-border trade, now sparking losses of hundreds of millions pesos to Haitian and Dominican merchants.

On Wednesday, the efforts by Dominican Government commission sent to negotiate with president René Preval proved futile as the Haitian authorities decided to continue the ban, begun two weeks ago to the Dominican chickens and eggs.

This is like a dead end street, BLA, BLA, BLA.

The haitian goverment wants to check, cross check, re- check, assure, re-assure, comply, verify, approve, see, verify, find out, comply, make sure, figure out, get final approval, double check, triple check and then comeback again to see for themselves, check again, double check, triple check, comply with quality control standards and at the end make sure everything is correct and by the book.

Way to to for the haitian goverment1, haitians should praise your good work..

I completely agree with you JRRubirosa. I'd be laughing if it wasn't so sad. The virus won't stop at a border. DR has avian flu so Haiti probably has it as well. We're so close that it's unavoidable. Who knows who infected who first... DR came clean about it first, for better or worse. Since Haiti doesn't have the means to check its own stocks, we need to swallow our pride and say to the DR:"Hey, we need your help. Will you help us? Please. Will you train us? Will you spare us some of your equipment?" Dominicans might be tempted to tell us to s***w off. Just remember, if our birds are indeed infected, then it doesn't matter what DR does to control the outbreak on their side, the virus will always be back. Help us help each other.

Toussaint, I think it's pretty clear where the virus came from. Plus, as you already mention, Haiti doesn't have the mean to check so that's why we have to be careful about this issue. We have to prevent it from entering the country because we wouldn't have the ressources required to control it.

Maybe this is why Haitian authorities are so cautious!

Hey, let me tell you, I'm just tissing you, I did have a great and funny argument with you beside our missunderstanding. I do love Dominican Republic as well as you, men how can I not Love DR. Its the only place I ever had 5-6 mates at once without getting in trouble, and no to say the drinkling and driving policy. Just don't be so hard in this poor Haitian people, only the Mormons are the ones that don't believe their going to Heaven.

Be above this topic, I know you can, thats why you live here in America, The United States of America and no down there in Port Au Prince or Santo Domingo".

Smile & be happy, Your buddy "Perception".
