Havana.– The Camilo Cienfuegos refinery, located in Cuba's Cienfuegos province, will soon have a new 50,000 cubic meter tank, as part of a group of a series of new investments.

According to Juventud Rebelde newspaper, this deposit will increase the refinery´s storage capacity, which already has four 20,000 cubic meter tanks under construction.

Julio Sanchez Gil, director of the Expanding Project of the PDV-CUPET joint venture, explained that as part of the fitting-out of this great- capacity tank they already finished the outer part wrapping and sandblasted it and added the first layer of paint.

This refinery should close October with over 16 million barrels processed, which could allowed to over accomplished year’s plan (19,400,000 barrels).

They invest in their natural resources!!! That is just perfect! If in the DR they find oil, the dominicans will rush off to selling those rescources to international exploiting companies for some Pennies.

The same way the dominicans do with our Gold and other natural resources!!! After Peru, we have the biggest oil mine in the Americas and our people do not benefit from it, because its Canadians exploiting it.

Todavia somos indios!

Then how come millions in Cuba have a protein deficient diet and rationing is in order?
I can not believe your figures. As far as health, education and medicine, I grant you the Cuban government has made gigantic leaps.
But as far as raising the level of acquisition of basic goods the majority of Cubans are poor much
less compared to Dominicans in general.
This is plainly evident just taking a short trip to the Socialist paradise and comparing it to DR.
Also Cuba maintains he second largest army in the Americas (after the USA) to maintain the population "in line" and that eats up a lot of revenue always watching for the US invasion that will never come.

Username your statistics are full of bullet holes. Cuba's GDP is close to Haiti's, the only difference between Cuba and Haiti is Cuba has more buildings but most are crumbling. And education is better so what! What do you accomplish with having a good education in a country where your life is controlled and rationed away by an old dope in a green gorilla suit telling you Cuba is socialist and the U.S. owns a naval base there????? Theres work in the cement factory, too bad my paycheck is rationed away by "PAPA FIDEL!" "SORRY NOT SOCIALIST OR COMMUNIST FRIENDLY."

The statistics i posted are provided by the US government, 2007 figures.

BTW, i live in DR full-time, but also take trips to Cuba and can compare the 2 countries, and i can tell you that an average Dominican is no better off than an average Cuban, and if the US government forbid the Dominicans living in the US to send money to family members back home, many many many Dominicans would be in deep sh*t, luckily for them 150 dollars goes a long way here if you are willing to eat rice every day.

Username again your statistics are hogwash, Cuba is extremely poor with no real opportunities. The Dominican Republic's GDP is one of the highest in Latin America. Despite its size a small country better than any Central American nation. And even better then Uruguay, Ecuador, Paraguay and the list goes on. Dude i have a cousin that installs security equiptment in the country, the shit that he sees is unbelievable for such a poor country??? The problem in the D.R. is wealth distribution something that occurs everywhere although some places are just more developed then others. "So believe what you want!!!!!"

i don't believe what i want, i believe what i see, and i'm sure your cousin sees unbelievable sh*t, i am not talking about the people your cousin installs security equipment for, i am talking about average people. you are talking about wealth distribution, did you know that when a few years back BMW opened a dealership in Havana, on the first day they sold 600 cars? the statistics i posted are provided by the US government, on their website, for everyone to see, and i'm sure whoever was typing those numbers was very pissed off that Cuba is doing so well compared to the "friendlies" in the neighborhood.

gouletcolonial, while you are sitting wherever it is you are, bickering on the internet and picking arguments because you have nothing better to do with your life, i am currently sitting on my balcony overlooking the ocean, which in no more than 80 meters away, living in a gated community where bums like yourself are never permitted to enter, i drive a late model SUV, i enjoy life with my family and friends, enjoy their love, support and respect, while they also know that i love, support and respect them, and everyone else who deserves to be respected, and when i log on the internet i try to have intelligent discussions, based on facts, statistics and reality, exchange of ideas and different points of views, and if for that i am a loser, then i am happy to be one.

Antony, i can not understand why my financial situation, however good or bad it may be, concerns you in any way? do you maybe see the world wealth as a zero-gain system, where for one to gain someone else has to loose, and you feel threatened that the more i gain, the more you loose?

Also Anthony, maybe the "marry an ugly woman with money" thing is the only way for you to reach your goals; get some dough, get out of Washington Heights and return to DR, buy a jeepeta, blast bachata, drink Brugal and play dominos with your crew, i don't know what your capabilities are, but i make my own money and most of my dreams are fulfilled, so don't blame me for your shortcomings.

Too funny. Washington Heights.....HAHAHAHA......Jeepeta.........Bachata.....Brugal.........Cracks me up. I enjoy your Chopo humor as I lounge by my pool, sipping on a single malt and enjoying a good cigar.

Anyway.....My gardener needs a new worker as one of his guys is going back to Honduras. So if you really need the money I can put in a good word for you.

BTW I never have owned a Jeepeta. Bachata and Brugal are for Chopos. Washington Heights is 1200 miles north of me and I am not Dominican.

It is interesting how people who are neither Dominican, nor live in DR, maybe visit occasionally, are "in the know" about what is going on here. Now i have a better understanding where you get your information and "facts" from, and based on what you form your opinions. Anyways, i will fade away since trying to have intelligent conversation here is nearly impossible, not for a lack of intellect but because intelligent people know "don't argue with fools, because people from a distance can't tell who's who". I see that discussing current affairs in DR here is more hopeless than discussing Russia with Sarah Palin, and she can see Russia from her front yard, you know.

Good night gents, i have golf to play tomorrow and have to get a good night's sleep if i want to have any chance of not embarrassing myself on the course, like i usually do.

why do i live in DR? Because in Cuba i can not BUY property. Also DR is not a horrible place, i love living here, but let's not pretend DR is the Dubai of Latin America, which it is not. As i said, an average Dominican is no better off than an average Cuban. As for me being a Liberal, socially that i am, fiscally not.

Now, if we want to continue this discussion, why don't we for a change focus on facts, statistics, real life experiences...
