SANTO DOMINGO. - The World Bank’s International Financial Corporation (IFC) chief praised Dominican Republic’s 13 point advance in the “Doing Business 2009” report, as one of the world’s top 10 reformer nations.

IFC economist Roberto Senderowitsch suggested that country continue advancing to reach the goal of spurring a series of reforms, including taxes and the mercantile restructure law.

The World Bank’s new representative in the country, who presented the report in the Hilton hotel, said there are advances but also challenges, citing the respect of contracts to improve efficiency in the electrical sector and improving the taxes on society. He also suggested a modern way to register  property, promote integration and invest in human capital, how to assure that the benefits reach small producers.

Present in the presentation of the report were Eddy Martinez, Temístocles Montas, Elena Viyella and Andres Van der Horts Alvarez.

What does "improving taxes on society" mean? INCREASING TAXES? What about improving the government supplied services that our taxes already pay for, education, clean water, electricity, good roads and honest police protection!! A few less MINISTERS and smaller BOTELLAS would go a long way.

GC:

I dislike many issues in the current goverment but anybody with common sense will agree with you,PRD is by far the most corrupted goverment in Dominican history (Salvador Jorge Blanco 1982-1986) and then Hipolito Mejia "The Donkey".

Antonio Guzman (1978-1982) killed himself because he had some guts and morals and felt repulsive about things done by his own corrupted people, PRD has the most dumbass, nearsighted and ignorant people guiding its policies.

Whilst pleased to read the country's a top performer, it is shameful to see the abyss amongst the lower and upper class with no visible or perceptible support or viability for a middle class. Please stop the macro/micro-economy joke and the mirage of a middle-class that is nothing more than the iceberg tip of the lowest economical bracket..

What in the world is this nonsense? If DR was doing so well improving its taxes and electrical sector, why is there so many power outtages? Who gives a hell about this bs, when in fact a huge percent of the nation can't afford to eat and can't afford the bare minimun? DR is good and is doing well for the rich! The ones that are sucking the life out of the honest and poor! The ones doing all the elegal stuff! Did somebody say the Goverment and its patcies? Yeah! That's right! Pleasssseee!

Well they obviously are good at juggling figures and doctoring financial reports to "look good".
This is more BS than real facts and most people can feel that they are being fed a big dose of bushu.
Of course comparing this administration to the nightmare of the PRD and putting up with Hipoloco's eccentricities
and his insults every day and his dumb and stupid ministers in important posts giving out mega corrupt contracts and hocking us to the hilt. We are undoubtedly progressing forward!
