I just want to know one thing: what happens when the electricity fails, as it most assuredly will? Eh?

I tell you it is a thing of beauty and couldn;t come sooner.

I passed by the main station at Villa Mella and those shiney red carslook like Santa Claus' Sleigh...

My freinds there can't wait because a bus takes up to an hour to get them to work and class.

The traffic is unbearable and people haven't even started coming home yet.

Rubi,

This not a question of my personal pride, but rather the dignity of my country.

We are a rdiculous country that spends so much on a METRO to NOWHERE, when the basic needs of education, health care and reliable electrical service have yet to be resolved.

josean, I know you feel disappointed I've been there myself. You've made some great points hopefully sooner than later all these issues will be addressed. However energy independence and infrastructure are very crucial for the future of this small developing country. 10 million people cannot live as hunters-gatherers.

gouletcolonial,

Maybe there will be electrical outlets, and the people can bring your Famous Rice Cookers on the METRO and cook in there.

Metro should make possible people to reach urban farms and allotments where people can 'Dig for Victory' - make DR independent of expensive polluted imports and power crazy supermarkets.
One can imagine a large farmers market outside the crowded streets of the city centre and near a metro station and huge areas of allotments.

Every developer should be forced to make available allotments outside the city - to be reached by metro.

This is a huge bonus that good transport systems can give.

'Dig for Victory'

When the electricity fails (first day), they will use their back-up plant. The Metro has its own electricity plant.
