SANTO DOMINGO. - Unpaid debts with the power companies will heighten the the electrical sector’s crisis, as the generator AES Dominicana notified the State-owned electrical companies (CDEEE) that due to lack of funds it cancelled a natural gas shipment slated to arrive December 4, which will undoubtedly affect December’s energy supply.

CDEEE executive vice-president Rhadamés Segura was notified of the same situation on the coal supply to power the Itabo plants, as the lack of money for fuel will also affect the plants Los Mina 5 and 6.

In a letter sent to Segura, AES Dominicana warns that if the current debt (June-July) US$50 million, or at least the one pending before October 17 isn’t paid, they’ll be forced to cancel the fuel shipment.

It is amazing that the concept of payment for services still escapes most of the people of the DR. If you go to a restaurant you pay for your food, if you go to a colmado you pay for your purchase, if you buy gas you pay for it. Why is it when you use the electricity no one, including the government, does not want to pay.

Well they should cut off all of those that do not pay, but the ones that do pay for it, should receive the service they are paying for.

Well, I must say I am shocked.
Segura assured us it was a technical problem and not one of payment.

I'll bet Segura and his counterparts and cronies all own companies that sell batteries and inverters or at least stock in those companies. Maybe a couple of candle manufacturers too!! That way they have all the bases covered.

AES has just warned in said letter, that CDEEE/DR should expect major electrical outages after Thanksgiving and into Dec. Without NG, both Los Minas and Andress (2x125 MW & 300 MW respectively) will not be operational. If coal shipments are interrupted for Itabo (2x125 MW), that will take out almost 800 MW for the system, leaving a BIG BLACK HOLE. Something has got give. A revolt perhaps??

Take the money from the officials who haven't filed their financials and pay the fuel companies
and disconnect the power to those officials until they comply.
They are half the problem raping the people of this country with their extravagant salaries and lifestyles!
Come on, Mr President. Review your priorities and keep an eye on what is going on around the country, not just the kingdom of Santo Domingo!

Sorry, they can not garnish their wages; they can not understand how a wire transfer works.

Dominicans have proven, once again, that they are shameless, corrupt, incompetent morons.

Oh, but the global crisis WILL NOT affect them.

That’s only because they had NO clue what that means. They just talk out of their ass.

Cheer Up!!!

The global economic meltdown will point up all the crap the government has been feeding the populus relative to what they're paying for andnot.
Eventually all this rhetoric wil be seen asjust another scam by those jicky-jack used car salesmen in the government who are masquerading as Statesmen andwho are past masters at "robbing Peter to pay Paul" on a daily basis.

TexasBill, It's just a damn shame it takes a global economic crisis to shine a light on the truth!! It would be true poetic justic if the same corrupt government officials that have been robbing the public coffers were ruined by this crisis, that they lose all they have!!

The METRO IS NOT ROLLING BUT:

Blackouts still rolling

Rolling blackouts are still being reported throughout the DR, despite the fact that new generators have come in to try and ease the situation. Hoy reports a deficit of 928 MW compared to a demand of 1,884 MW. The State-run Electricity Companies (CDEEE) paid US$20 million to the energy distributors, bringing the government's total debt down to US$336 million to the distributors. It was hoped that this payment would buy the government and distributors some time. However, many of the generators are still off the grid because they don't have money to buy more fuel. The AES-Andres generator, which supplies 20% of the national demand, was still off line yesterday and is not expected to be operational until some time next week. Listin Diario reports that AES has canceled a shipment of petroleum because they did not have the funds to pay for the fuel.

Continues:

The shipment was expected to arrive in December, meaning that these blackouts could extend through the holiday season. Itabo is reportedly in the same position as AES.
