SANTO DOMINGO.- With the resumed operation of the AES Andres natural gas plant, off line since the 17th of this month for maintenance, the supplyof electricity to the population has improved.

Yesterday the up to 20 hour-long rolling blackouts in the country were significantly reduced, when at 3 p.m., the interconnected system’s (Seni) deficit reached 1,438 megawatts,  falling short by 551 megawatts to a demand of of 1,989 megawatts.

AES Andres’ re-entry to the system reduced the blackouts, as announced by State Electrical Companies (CDEEE) vice-president Radhamés Segura, after meeting with AES Dominicana president  Marco de la Rosa in Boc Chica.

So is the less blackouts a target to shoot for as opposed to NO BLACKOUTS

Developing countres all have black-out. India, South Africa, Turkey etc. People need to use less energy. Solar cooking, natural light, insulation etc. instead of air-con, more efficient appliances, computers that burn only 2 watts etc.

More blackouts coming. Smith and Enron plant in PuertoPlata just went offline.
