SANTO DOMINGO.- Tourism minister Francisco Javier Garcia yesterday said investors are interested in promoting tourism projects in several South region localities such as San Cristóbal and Pedernales, including Bahia de las Aguilas, and some investments could be announced in the next few days.
He said he spoke about tourism projects in Bahia de las Aguilas with Environment minister Jaime David Fernandez Mirabal, who told he agrees with any economic development in harmony with nature.
Garcia said the time has come to launch the South region’s tourism development and affirmed that investments in the millions will be announced in the coming days for that area, beginning with the municipality Palenque, in San Cristóbal province.
The official said he currently has dozens of requests by foreigners who want to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in the South region.
Interviewed by Héctor Herrera Cabral in the D´Agenda program on Telesistema, channel 11, the Tourism minister said the South has exceptional conditions to become one of the main tourism regions in the country, for which he’ll visit the Senate request expdediting the debate on a concession contract to exploit a tourism project in Barahona.
Other attractions
Garcia said in addition to Bahia de las Aguilas the South has tourist attractions such as hot springs, the areas around Enriquillo lake and other places ideal for ecotourism development.
He said that as soon as he returns from England he’ll tour all the Southern provinces, where he’ll meet with the region’s “active forces.”
