SANTO DOMINGO.- The Senate last night unanimously approved an Agreement Affidavit for the Santo Domingo-Cruce Rincon de Molinillo (Samaná) Concession Contract, to start  the highway project’s second stage, with a planned investment of US$160.6 million.

This stage of the project will be also have private financing and built by the company Boulevard Turístico del Atlántico, to which the company Autopistas del Nordeste yields the optional span of the Nagua-Samaná road network.

If the road work is the same as the new Samaná road forget it. Badly done.

This twentieth century 1 lane highway - will only increase motor vehicle deaths if this country does not add two lanes!

It will last 2 months then you will have potholes to bury a Jet Plane in just like all the other work is done here. Low quality and much money in peoples pockets is the way of the land here.

Is so sad that everything that need to be done in the DR has to be with a loan. There is something very wrong when every move this country makes, it take it deeper the hole. The Dominicans should take note from the current US financial crisis that shows how fake an economic is when everything is base on credit and borrowing to buy things you can afford.

LOL ....At least there is a bit of a shoulder on the Highway pictured. Most of the Highways in the DR are built just, and mean just wide enough for two vehicules

Whwn I first flew into Punta cana a few years back, it was evident that a road was to be built. Now....some 3 years later.....there is ...still no road. Amazing that the number one source of tourism in the country, also has some of the worst possible roads. The road from SDQ to La Romana....incomplete....the road from La Romana to Bavaro...downright scary.

Oddly enough...in true Dominican fashion...instead of taking a 2 lane section all the way up and then returning back with a 2nd 2 lane ....well...forget it...that would make too much sense....so now we have 4 lanes abruptly ending....somewhere in the middle of nowhere.
