SANTO DOMINGO.- The president of the young etreprenerus grouped in ANJE said Wednesday that some sectors have yet to post lower prices for their products because they bought them when oil cost around 80 to 120 dollars, and won’t do so until their inventory runs out, but asked God to “shed his light on the country.”

Pablo Piantini said other factors which have kept prices high are ballooning financial costs, a “slight” increase in the exchange rate and that some imported products are still expensive. “It’s necessary to wait for the depletion of, for example, inventories. There are inventories, depending on the area, of from 30 to 90 days, which should be monitored and if oil prices continue their downard tendency in that period.”

Piantini, after a mass in the Cathedral to mark ANJE’s 30th anniversary in which they asked to God to guarantee an effective war against corruption and crime in the country, to allow a climate of peace and citizen security. “May the Almighty shed his light so the country won't postpone and solve the electrical problem, which is more untenable day every for the business sector and the citizens in general, and creates social unrest and instability.”

They also asked God for a dialogue between all sectors, to reflect on the world economic crisis and the national and moral problems that affect the nation, so that measures are taken to bolster democracy.

They were making indecent profits when oil was sky-high.
Now they only want to make grossly indecent profits.

Oh God I can't force myself to lower any prices, please help me God!
I mean I have to pay for my Porsche Cayenne jipeta and my Casa de Campo villa (which by the way the maintenance is going up so high all the time!) and all my children private schools and skying trips to Vail, and shopping jaunts to New York.
And yes my little 60 foot yacht that runs on economical diesel fuel, and my mistress Lexus, and all the tee expenses and private club fees for my golf game , and on and on and on.
So please God bestow your grace upon us and let us keep milking the poor populace forever and ever. Amen.

The amazing thing is to adjust prices up, they were very speedy - despite the same argument that they bought the oil at a cheaper rate; now they maintain that their inventory were bought at higher prices. Well, just atke the winnings from beofre to make up for some losses you'll have now.

These people are just justifying the fleecing of the public.

But this is not limited to the DR.
Here in Northern Alberta we have Gass at CND $0.88/LT while oil trades at US $54.25. Back when oil was U.S $150/Barrel Gas was CND $1.48/LT...As you can see, the trend up is almost 1:1; but the trend down is not...

beautiful post regarding these whining business people, generoso. they better enjoy it while they can. they have, more often than not, been children of privelege, with all kinds of support occasioned by their hyphenated surnames. they have never bothered to improve their product, because they have never known what it is to compete. well, if they are bawling now, they better buy cases of Kleenex for the future. all over the USA, there are brilliant young dominicans attending business school, or working in lean, mean, cut-throat corporate america firms. some of these youngsters just might come back home. then, it will be hell to pay, when guys with efficient business ideas and entrepreneurial acumen relagate these old family businees types to the trashbin of commerce.

By who and for what reason? Is it you and because you are jealous?

Sorry but these businesses should charge whatever they want to. If they charge too much they won't make money. If they charge to little they won't make money. Either way they go out of business.
The ones who charge enough to maximize profits without hurting sales are the ones who will survive.

thus spake anthonyc, everybody's favorite voice of reason. an intellectual tour de force about pricing! the ability to "charge whatever they want to" is entirely dependent upon the amount of suppliers in a given market. when sellers hold a virtual monopoly, thye can, de facto, charge exhorbitant prices, which do not get corrected by the hand of the market, because of lack of competitors. so, the public suffers, and the economy gets hit by price pull inflation, which is even worse than cost push inflation, which, at least, has a multiplier component!

It was the lack of consumer purchase that didn't give them (businesses) the profit they wanted and now that oil prices are lower, and still consumer purchases are low, they are not getting the profits they wish!

Too many enterpreurs I fear - business cannot be efficient and prices are passed on to consumer with this glut of entepreneurs.
For example someone sees the price of tomatoes is good. He borrows money, buys fertilizer from one the hundred other inefficient suppliers of fertilizers, plants tomatoes. Other entepreneurs get the same idea. Soon there is glut of tomatoes. - but no-one can lower prices; look up a book on the theory of markets to find out why.
There are also too many entepreneurs trading tomatos, selling tomatoes in the market etc. Each takes a slice of the final price. Each has loans to repay etc.
Efficiency is good when tthe government sets a minimum guaranteed price and a maximum price.
Encourages distribution through co-operatives, runs local markets with a nmber of traders appropriate to the local population. Of course in other areas the government does this, bus services, motor-conchos etc.

Each market has limited opening hours and a limited number of participants who must register.
The right to have a market stall is prized and there is vetting, both on opening and on a continuous basis. e.g. you cannot sell rotten tomatos mixed with good ones.

If DR is to compete with China it needs them too. It needs efficient markets and agriculture like France - where entepreneurs must be efficient not working stupid hours inefficiently chasing too few customers. One reaches the conclusion that the US is in a mess because many of its people are idiots.

China---Nice place, demolished housing for over 100,000 to put in the olympic venues. Price controls sux, Venezuela has them and inflation on food alone is more than 56% this year alone, cant find coffee for purchase yet it grows wild in the mountians. France sucks, used to work for a multi-national company based out of Montigny le Breteneaux, 10 ounce coke is 3 Euros, 5 dollars or 165 RDP. Dream on ABC, you should buy a small island and start your own country and make yourself President for life like Idi Amin or Papa Doc, see how that works

Since Monday of this week 84 cab drivers killed in Caracas Venz., 143 daily attacks on them

I coldn't offend a fly. But of course the tourist season is upon us an the Americans are coming in droves to DR paradise. I don't mind but sometimes the local wine merchants run out of champagne. This is incovenient. Also the price of lobster goes up. In a true socialist state the wine merchants would be more competant and the price of lobster controlled. However as consolation the French people here organise a spectial consignment of delacies suitable for us local gourmets. In the spirit of generosity that prevails in the season there is often sufficient fois gras for Americans to truly appreciate at this special season of goodwill.

Americans are so jelous of the French, The good life there. Many Americans go there to live.
Free, or nearly free, heatlh services, superior education, 6 weeks paid holiday typical, high minimum wage, world beating cars, best ski runs in World, superb trains, a fantastic bounty of fresh food, no hormones in meat, good bread available everywhere, retire on pension at 55, 35 hour week, excellent life expectancy, many other good things - and this ts talks about polluting his body with some American trash drink!
US has quarter million houses in foreclosure, people end up sleeping in tents or cars. Of course China people make sacrifices for the games. They feel it is an honour and there are huge housing projects.

Get your story straight wanker, you just speculate with little base knowledge.
Price controls are a thing of the past just used in a centrally planified economy like Cuba.
Puerto Rican coffee's quality is excellent but their local production is not enough to satisfy demand and they buy from the DR, so does Jamaica and resells it as their priced "blue mountain coffee" that is just plain good business, live and let live, let the other guy make a profit if he can.
Why don't you move to Cuba the island prison you will be a lot happier there but you will have to do without your french gourmet goods that you so admire.LOL.

Under your pal Franco there were price controls. Every hotel and guest house had to display the price per night. This price had to be approved. This helped the tourist industry grow. Also bar prices had to be displayed and the prices approved. Diamonds have price fixing, rice also, a lot of products in China. This is the way to prosperity. Stops rip-offs such as price gouging of DR coffee in Puerto Rico. If entepreneurs rip people off then government must do this.
