Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. – Around 3,500 applicants presented their résumés to be selected to cover the 1,700 jobs available in 11 hotels offered through the Labor Ministry’s (SETH) Job Fair
The applicants, who arrived early morning from different regions of the country, made long lines before presenting their papers to the representatives of the hotel companies, all members of the East Zone Hotels and Tourist Projects Association.
Labor minister Max Puig, who headed the event, said the Fair tries to link the supply of jobs with the demand. “The Labor Ministry is there to bring together the capital and the work, because in this manner opportunities are created for the construction of a better country.”

the number of applicants should it been greater just 3,500 applicants for 1,700 jobs open. that's not good enough wouldn't you guys say.

This is a good event.
I prefer to see job candidates in line for interviews (vs. Dominicans taking to the high seas unprepared on YOLA's).
it is clear, the RD needs to be more strategic and this is one example of that. Unfortunately, we do NOT see enough of it.
Why not lobby credit card companies to develop more jobs (i.e. call centers) and force employees to learn english so the customer service reps can serve both American latinas and english speaking clients.
It is a HUGE mistake for the RD Gov to continue to be non-strategic because ENGLISH should be apart of early education (and call center jobs would not have went to INDIA). But, as long as the RD Gov keeps their head up the azz while getting no strategic direction from Fannin & the US Embassy then the same mistakes will perpetuate forever!

Horrible way of applying for a job! Long lines, bureaucracy!!! Don't these people have internet?
From: Dominican Republic
Out of those1,700 I would say 700 of those jobs will go to the Haitians...and the rest for the privileged Dominicans. Why would they hire the Haitians before a Dominican well like I've said countless times WE ARE BETTER.
From: Dominican Republic, Punta Cana
Haitians working in Dominican Hotels?? Please inform better...Haitians would be these people that are building your country, as Dominicans are too lazy to work, especcially on construction.
Anyway working in Hotel is crap job, you have food, a bed (sleeping with a group of people) low salary.
It would be great if there are some real edcuated personal for Hotels, speaking at least English. Mostly what I am looking here in Bavaro, Punta Cana, are free prostitution, orginized drugs, and roads with holes.
Good thing is that we have electricity 24 hours. (The rest of Dominican Republic dont., so it looks like 18 century mixed with 21.

"Dominicans are too lazy to work, especcially on construction"
Miloskorac, no disrespect, but you are quite full of it. Dominicans are not too lazy to work okay, the thing is most Dominicans will not agree to work for the same pay and working conditions that the illegal Haitians are willing to accept. Why don't you mention that part of the equation? And I see you mention all these things about DR, so my question to you is, why do you live in DR? If it's so bad then why are you there? I love to hear foreigners living in DR talk crap about the DR but then use our resources and benefit from them and then come here to talk smack. Very amusing.
From: Dominican Republic, Punta Cana
I see that you live in United States, Newark, NJ/NYC, so who gives you right to ask me why do I live here in D.R.
Dominicans dont like to work, or if they do work, they will work for any money. So its not about the money. Its a typical psychological problem (a complex) as they found a Haitians so they can cure they skin color complex.
I am not saying that I am passing a bad time in D.R. on the contrary, I am spending super nice time, without using any of your resources.
You are forgoting how did you came to this island my friend.
How do you feel as Dominican Patriot from Newark?

Miloskorac, I was born and raised here in the U.S. (here in Newark to be exact, yes) so I have all the right to be here. My parents both came to this great country legally almost 30 years ago and are grateful for the opportunities that they have been granted, just as I am grateful to have been born and raised here in America. Anyway, Dominicans do like to work, you need to stop generalizing and stereotyping an entire nation because you obviously don't know what you're talking about. I will repeat again since apparently you misread that part of the post: DOMINICANS WILL NOT WORK FOR THE SAME WORKING CONDITIONS AND WAGES THAT ILLEGAL HAITIANS ARE WILLING TO ACCEPT. I hope that came out clearly. Same thing that goes on here in the U.S., many Americans will do the jobs that illegal Mexicans come here to do BUT NOT FOR THE SAME WAGES AND WORKING CONDITIONS THAT ILLEGAL MEXICANS ACCEPT. Are you catching my drift here?

You are not following the story. Haitians are gaining a lots of money working on construction, I see here Haitians with cars, and most of them have scooters, motors, nice clothes.
Here exists regular wages for main construction worker, assistent worker, and haitian worker.
Only problem is that Dominicans are not educated for the specific work, but you can find only desparate people as builders, and not properlly educated construction worker from a highschool. Also conditions on all constructions, in this country are very well, every worker (and Haitian) have medical insurrance. And most of the contructions are done by the law, with permits, and with legal financing source, if you know what I mean.

Milo, what does that have to do with what I asked? I'm not talking about crime in DR, I know it exists and is out of control, I know thousands of DOMINICANS can't find jobs.

I am following the story. It's all about money. You will keep insisting that there arent enough qualified dominicans to the jobs haitians are doing and that dominicans are lazy and bla bla bla, but common sense will dictate that the only reason they get all these jobs in DR is because they will do it just as good but for a lot less money. Which business owner in their right mind will turn an offer like that down?
From: Dominican Republic, Punta Cana

Milo, if we dominicans are such villains for you, why don't you go back to Servia and rid us of your troublesome presence? You know, I consider it rich and amusing the fact of you calling us racists when your country (Servia) is characterized for being the heir of Nazi Germany on current times. What are you waiting for? your country needs you now, because if things keep up like this, Emperor Obama may give it on its entirety to your hated albano-kosovar enemies. LOL
P.S.: Joe Bidden was one of the architects in the dismemberment of your country, so that should be reason enough for you to be afraid.

As for you Dominicanation, why don't you tell us about your other identity (i.e. GRENADIER1804), with which you're spreading poisonous lies against the DR on the YouTube community, you coward. That way, you'll show to the people on this site how low a human being can get when gratifying his/her envious impulses.

thanks for that posting, Mr Lautaro. miloscockroach is just another of these reprehensible eastern european vermin who ooze all over the earth, contaminating civilisation with their presence. those who live in the Bronx have to tolerate this group of evil , racist savages, who attack people of color in the Pelhan Bay regions. i have dealt with them before, and they are a pestilence upon civilisation. so, Milos, do a favor to those of us who love this country and its wonderful people; get thee to an airport, post haste, and haul your sorry ass back to the caves of the caucasus. i give you my solemn word; we will not miss you.
