SANTO DOMINGO.- The president of the Dominican beer breweries grouped in Adace said the industry generates more than 100,000 direct and indirect jobs, and represents nearly 3 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Rafael Menicucci said the beer companies, headed by the breweries Nacional Dominicana, La Vegana, Bohemia and Ambev, pay more than RD$4 billion in taxes.

Speaking in the event "Beer Flavors and Aromas" in Santiago, the executive said in Latin America Dominican Republic is among the top eight beer producers and among the top three exporters to the United States.

Menicucci said the industry cooperates in the areas of education, culture, sports, the environment and community development, and promote responsibility in the consumption of their products.

That means Dominicans drink more beer than milk. I visited the DR a year ago and I could not read a book because in certain neighborhoods they think that having loud music and drinking alcohol everyday is a good way of life. No wounder 58% of high school students could not pass the test. It is very hard to study. There are more parranda than education.

You see, so why when politicians want to raise taxes they always punish our beer, rum and tobacco producers? Support our products. I don't smoke and have drunk like 3 times my entire life, but you know what I mean lol.

sin taxes are always the easiest to get away with ....keep raising the taxes on beer ...the sooner Presidente will crumble to Ambev ...Cervaceria is top heavy with fat and the owners need to drive smaller Mercedes and fewer secretaries to boink

yeah I know, let's tax the evil products. The thing is that's some of the few things we produce and are actually good at. It would be a shame to lose these companies. Also, I would rather see a national company kick a foreign company's ass in our country at least.

It would be dumb if it was at the consumers expense wouldn"t it..?...which it is now....the beer is way overpriced to cover the fat....you can buy it cheaper in Miami...what does that tell you?
