Santo Domingo.- President Leonel Fernandez said today he’ll take the first “official” ride in the new Santo Domingo Metro (subway), scheduled to conduct its first test run on February 27.
Fernandez said he’ll board one of the trains for a “displacement run” of an unspecified distance on the subway, which has a total route of 17 kilometers.
Interviewed today by Cesar Medina on Colorvision, the chief executive said despite the criticism to the project whose total cost has yet to be made public, the population will accept it, because it will transport “millions” of commuters.
During his Independence Day speech before Congress on February 27 last year and with construction barely begun, Fernandez invited the lawmakers on the subway’s firs run, which he vowed to have ready on that same date this year.

The first mugging has occurred on the METRO!
The alleged perpetrators are reported to be wearing purple tshirts with three yellow letters: PLD. Apparently this gang was under control for four years by another gang who's colors are white with three letters reported to be PRD. But they have now comeback with a vengeance pillaging and stealing everything and anything in its path.
The suspects are at large, or is it living large, are driving big gas guzzling Japanese SUVs headed in the direction of the National Place.
Oh, yes the victims are reported to be 9, 000, 000 DOMINICANS. Plus the world wide diaspora that has to send money to support their families while the gang continues to mug the national resources for their own benefit, expecting the Dominicans overseas to resolve the country's problems with there remittances.
An ear witness heard them say as they speed off "Eh, Palante Que Vamaos"!
