SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominican capital’s Metro (subway) began the preparatory stage of its route on Thursday, with a test conducted with the presence of technicians of Madrid’s Metro.

The Transit Reform Office (Opret) said the modern transport system made its first successful run across the Isabela river bridge, in north Santo Domingo.

Onlookers cheered as the cars crossed the bridge northward and reached the station Mirabal Sisters, where workers and officials applauded and celebrated.

Well, at least the damned thing didn't derail and dump everyone into the river.
Now, let's see if the rest of the line will perform as well. That is, when it is finished.
Leonel's DREAM is continuing on time, but, MY GOD at what a tremendous cost to the unsuspecting public.
Frankly, I really didn't think it would get this far in its programed progress.
All it will need upon completion is the "ridership" that has been projected and expected by those who have supported it.

I am sure you will be disappointed because you will see none(negative comment), I have been following your ampiousness toward Haitian, I must admit you are not the brightest bulb.

Do you really think the average Haitian care about your metro, when their daily concern is to put food at their table, go figure.?

In my part, I would liked to congradulate DR , and my Dominican friends on their new Metro.

Feel free to pick up any topic DR vs Haiti in any of these languages :English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Kreyol.

I will debunk any of your brainwashed, biased propaganda, including all the myth that you were fed....it's a shame, you are a so call intellectual, yet you are imcapable of carrying a balance, and a fair opinion.

Please educate our fellow bloggers , when was the last time you have done due dilligence which respect to all the garbages that you have so far posted.? do not worry I will wait...

This is great news. We need more positive people that are able to take risk. This is progress, and this project will definitely work. And for all the negative comments, this proves to show you.

Antonioj: You want to sound like a "macho man" or "cowboy" kid get smarter opinions about me and create your own "Creole website" for haitians.

Exactly what I thought, you are avoiding to answer or to debate facts, I do not have time to educate you, however a blog is not build with restriction in mind. Now I understand you live abroad in search of a better life in the old USA, you can be positive, constructive and rise above that backyard attitude.

Again the word "police" is use in the wrong context, no one is forcing you to think like me , I am only suggesting that there are others opinions that differ from what you grow up and accustom to believe in.

like fix the roads Duh ???

Where the hell do you live the roads are being freshly repaved and in better shape then ever.

The Malecon is cleaner and greener then ever..

You naysayers need to get a clue .

The metro won't collapse they have Engineers from Spain to help.. this is big step forward and gurantee it will attract more investment and confidence from Europe. This is best thing I have seen since they built the underpasses and the over passes "elevado" Dominicans can be proud and pride will motivate people!

this really is a big deal for DR. and hopefully it does lead to decrease in oil consumption.

P.S- the roads are being rebuilt, i was in DR in jan. and the Constanza mountain road was being rebuilt along with the route to Santiago

Antonioj: don't get the point on why You have to mention debating issues in different languages
(either You have a low self personality or maybe You want to show up what your personality is short of)

I don't get the point neither on what do You want to debate since my points of views are so crsytal clear, and once again don't try to police or harass my thinking with your "Toxic" and "Twisted" "Haitian" pro thinking.

If You need to promote and spree positive ideas (You do have a right) but on Haiti and as long as You and your people don't bother our peaceful and orderly living.

Give an example of what Haitians in common are doing to guide, correct, solve, improve, organize and straight Your country other that always pointing your fingers to Dominican Republic to find a scapegoat.

Like I mentioned before (10 times) people Like Mr Tfiske and Texasbill live and see first hand everything in DR (They are foreigners) and They always express the truth, (no to say )

RUBIROSA: Our country's achievemen hurts other who wish us to fail. Pay no attention to these people. Regardless of how it was constructed or how much it cost, the fact remains that we have metro and they don't.

yes no matter how much it costs we got it......the Metro total cost will not be known until after Leonel is reelected.....If that number had been used in the beginning it never would have started.....That said ...I am not against the metro just against the lack of transparency....Remember the Faro Colon a huge cost money etc. and what do we get a mausoleum with a POSSIBLE body part of Columbus...Let us hope the Metro has a better future
