Once this test is conducted the technical inaugural run which president Leonel Fernandez will taken on Wednesday will be confirmed, to mark the country’s Independence Day on February 27, after the official ceremonies in Congress, said Transport Reform Office (Opret) director Diandino Peña.

"These technicians will be verifying and certifying the quality of the transport system which we have constructed", he said.

Peña said after their tour the technicians will meet with Fernandez in the National Palace to inform him of their conclusions. "Afterwards there will be a press conference to inform the public opinion on the details of the event."

yes no matter how much it costs we got it......the Metro total cost will not be known until after Leonel is reelected.....If that number had been used in the beginning it never would have started.....That said ...I am not against the metro just against the lack of transparency....Remember the Faro Colon a huge cost money etc. and what do we get a mausoleum with a POSSIBLE body part of Columbus...Let us hope the Metro has a better future

I think the iniciative was a good one. It is a shame that something so important for the well being of so many people has had so much negative comments.

> gouletcolonial < you are comparing apples to Volkswagens ... I understand both (FaroColon & Metro) are colossal projects however the Metro will play a significant role when it comes to infrastructure and economic development of the country.

Finallly the beginning of the end of the strong hold of the "duenos del pais", who are abussers of the mass population.
So the economics are not transparent welcome to politics. Lets be honest, it is a success as long as it provides people with the much needed mass transportation and ends the strikes and other menaces from the public cars and their never ending bickering and price raising.

The good thing about all of this is the desire of all our past head of state to project our nation as a country that is working its way into the XXI century, Balaguer and the road expansion that reach through the country side, Hipolito and the Pan Am games and Leonel will leave us the metro.
