Mexico City.- Dominican ambassador in Mexico, Pablo Mariñez, said trade of US$3.5 billion between Dominican Republic and Mexico has made his country the latter’s major partner in the Caribbean.
"Dominican Republic is the second-largest receptor country, only after Brazil, of Mexican capital investments in Latin America. These surpass 3.5 billion dollars," said the ambassador, describing the frequent trips by delegations of Mexican and Dominican investors to each other’s countries as a two-way bridge.
Maríñez, speaking during a reception in the embassy to mark the 164th anniversary of Dominican Independence, said bilateral relations between both countries are improving, citing at least 10 treaties and agreements in effect.
He said a recent accord in civil aeronautics seeks to establish direct flights between the two nations, to take advantage of the tourism attractions and the large number of passengers between both countries.

It makes me happy to see Latin American countries working together more and increasing trade. I've always believed that all the Spanish speaking countries and Brazil too, should work to establish a union similar to the European Union. Hopefully it will be a reality in 25 years.

The first steps are there already. If I'm not mistaken there are no visa requirements between the Latin countries. So it shouldn't be that hard to do.

yeah but I don’t think there is enough will power to do so. LA countries have a great sense of pride, and this is a problem. + There all 3 world countries and each have many social and economical problems to overcome.

Yes I agree about the great sense of pride, but by the time they decide to do it all the countries will be much more developed and it should be a lot easier. Also the young people are less likely to be nationalistic in this world that is more international everyday.

guys ALREADY the process of integration is happening... In South America there's a Union being formed... Type on Wikipedia "UNASUL" and read about the union. The only flaw i see is that it's a South American experiment which excludes central America, Caribbean, and Mexico; but it doesn't state that these countries cannot joined later on.
If integration does happened between all nations in LA, we'll have all types of resources available Oil, Gold, Natural Gas, Copper, Etc. and LA can join the 1st world country within a couple of years.

Hi thanks for the heads up. I’m reading about this and it is quite interesting. I hope that this all goes well and more countries join the union (and they change the name).

I would love too see a unified Latin America like the E.U. has done abroad. Just imagine a supper highway from the U.S. and Mexican border to the horn of Argentina, or a bridge, chunnel from D.R. to P.R. or Cuba. A mass transit system with the proper weight and measures to hold the great volume of cargo, goods and service that it would generate. The restructuring of just interstate commerce in that aspect alone would be of great value to the people of those countries. Redeveloping of rail and intermodal river operations would be of vast importance. The redesigning of the way the amazon river along with an up to date hydroelectric power plant would help from Brazil to Argentina. Enforcement and revaluation of enviroremental laws would be of great value to the prople of all Latin American countries. Also don't sell yourselves short. Equal pay for goods and services. Unification is the key to successe.
