Hybrid.

Zoom Picture

Santo Domingo.- Senator Francisco Domínguez Brito (Santiago-PLD) submitted a bill to create the Hybrid-electric Vehicle Import Incentive Law and defines them as driven by a combination of energy from fuel with an internal combustion engine and an electric motor, with a battery.

The legislation proposes an import tax exemption of 30 percent for those vehicles, according to what the law establishes for new vehicles driven by electrical energy, hydrogen fuel cells or compressed air.

Where will you get the electricity to charge these units.

Since the CDE dosen't supply electricity 24 hours a day you will need to run your home planta electrica to charge these units.

So where is the savings.

IN Teflon Fernandez's brain. My God these people get more stupid every day and they think that the population must be stupid to try and sell this brainless concept.

PS is the Metro running yet. maybe they can charge these hybrids there while they take the metro.

The Hybrids don't need to be plugged in "driven by a combination of energy from fuel with an internal combustion engine and an electric motor, with a battery."

So plugging them in is not how they work.

It is a good idea but they are very expensive so the comment about bringing these cars in duty free is the best comment so far. In fact it is the only way to sell this to the public.

I once asked who the bleep is this Harrington guy?,
all he does is shoot insults to everybody concerning our country,
and things or proposals for the best of the people.

There is a moment, people get sick and tired of so much negativism,
the poison of this person must come from something he didn't get or was given.

For the information of this stupid man, there are already hybrid vehicles running in Dominican streets and highways.
But the again, he is not supossed to know and understand anything other than spill his bull s......

GREAT IDEA.... DR already produces more energy than it consumes.... It's a fact howerver, there's so much theft of electricity that electricity companies are forced to cut power regularly.

Theft of the electricity.........I would bet that someone right now has there house connected to the electrcity power line suppling the Metro, or at least he will be connected preatty soon.

Hey you never know, we are very creative.

Also these Hybrid cars (US) cost just as much as a SUV ($23,000+), so where are the savings. It is all bla bla and alot of hype. I always believed that the first generations (Electrical products) are always sold to the consumers with defects and also over priced, so if you have money to throw away on a new idea...god bless you. I would rather just wait for the bugs to be fixed (3 or 4 generations), and prices to drop before I commit to a hybrid or what ever they will call it 10 years from now, to catch our attention again.

Nationalistic pride is good, however when coupled with blind igorance will only bring self destruction.

The DR was a country with an identiy that had charm and history bathed in a carribean beauty.

The people have allowed politicians to change this beauty to corruption through ignorant elenctions based on nationalism.

I have noticed that most of the people supporting this corruption are blind of the true facts and live in Canada or the US or Euorpe.

If everything is so beautiful in the DR then why did you leave your beautiful country to live in other countries.

Lack of work, no money , no chance of advancement, politcal corruption, pollution, no water no light but a metro at a debt ratio tha will never be paid off.

But the sweat on the backs of the population thinking they will some day have a better life is admirable and have my sympathy.

You definitely need that somebody jump up your mind somehow.
This country, HAVE AN IDENTITY, IT IS CALLED DOMINICAN REPUBLIC,
this country have and many nationalistic men, who feel proud to be Dominicans,

if you are an American which your name would dictate, you should know that things in US are not that of good color nowdays, and why?,
just the same corrupt politicians coming from a only two parties, this country, like any other country,
is not too far separated from the corruption of unscrupulous politics, this is an omen that unfortunately runs rampant in the world.

I can't believe people could be that fool to believe migration to other countries have not been a practice from centuries, otherwise, American Indians still would be populating this Continent.

the hybrid car seems to be the wave of the transportation future, since biofuel production seems to have caused some people to have second thoughts. the real downside is the cost of the battery, and also its toxicity . these batteries need to be handled with extreme caution in the event of ,say,an accident. but hybrid seems to be all the rage.

It is in did sad how the worse enemy of the Dominican Country are some of its own people. Many of them are like the crabs, they do not do any thing in an attempt to make the Dominican Republic a better place to live. Nevertheless, make sure to do any thing not to allow some one else to do something. Such appears to be the cases of "Josean", "UnderCover" and Mr. " JimHarrigton. This people appears to be blind to every thing that it is going on in RD. There are very other few Country's that one is able to see the development happening right before one eye. To Mr. "Josean" , for instance, not prior Government had allocated more resource to the in fracture of the Country, to Education, or to heath care like this one has. I am Dominican, and would value any one making an effort to enhance the quality of life of the Dominican People. The fact is, that if I can not find any thing good to said to encourage the good behaviors, I would rather not say any thing.

Yes, you shouldn't put Leonel's name and education in the same sentence.
Lets keep education out of it since nobody is doing anything.
DR has still the worse educational level in the world, if not one of the worse.
Yes Leonel go to US to get your education, as for Dominicans themselves, who cares...

Ramirezid, please forgive me, but i happen to be a stickler for numbers. would you kindly illustrate your observation that this government has been allowing for unprecedented amounts of money for education with figures? can you use the year 2000 as the base year and give us figures such as education expenditure as portion of GDP or National Budget? if 2000 is unavailable, just select a year...2006, perhaps. show me some numbers, please. heck, you could be right. but if you are, then the money is doing no good, because the results are worsening.can you say UNDERPERFORMING?

hey Goulet, on may 29 you triumphantly reminded us that oil had gone down 4 bucks per barrel, and, becuse of your legendary foresight, you had started to sell short even before that event. am i to surmise from this that you expected the price to keep falling? did you do this upon the advice of a broker, or did you rely upon your formidable appreciation of economics ? had you waited a few days, you would be cleaning up. heck, when you sold the price was 126.00 yesterday it closed at 138.54. maybe i am right in my assertion that you are the only person who thinks you are smart.

Friday’s jump capped a second day of strong gains on energy markets, and fed suspicions that commodities might be caught in an investment bubble.

Oil prices have doubled in the last 12 months, and are up 42 percent since the beginning of the year. Oil futures surged $10.75, or 8 percent, to $138.54 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, their biggest jump since contracts began trading in 1983. The record rise brought a two-day jump of more than $16 a barrel, after Thursday’s 5.5 percent gain.

“This market is going to shoot itself in the foot,” said Adam Robinson, an energy analyst at Lehman Brothers. “It is searching for a price that will build a safety cushion in the system — either as inventories or as spare capacity. This takes time. But the market has gotten extremely impatient and is not willing to wait.”.......http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/07/business/07oil.html?ref=business

you could have made more if you did not think that the price would go bust. it aint gonna, not any time soon. think of the fact that as we speak, only 1.4% of chinese households own a car. factor in the number 1.2 billion. factor in the debacle in the usa regarding corn ethanol, which costs more to produce than it generates.( pertoleum and other fuels do not create energy; they release it. in order to create ethanol from corn, more energy is released in the manufacture than the finished product is capable of). as long as demand in the east keeps going up, the crap keeps hitting the fan. wall street took a dump, so what does Ben Bernanke do? he starts pondering another interest rate cut, to give them another 2 day shot in the arm. then the dollar sinks even more, and oil goes up again. nope, by labor day it will be 150.00. i undershot with my prediction of 140.00 by august. this is my last prediction.
