SANTO DOMINGO.- The Public Works Ministry said it completed repairs to Jarabacoa’s (central) Baiguate bridge, which sustained considerable damage, after flooding from the last days rains in that region.
Repairs on the bridge, which links Constanza, Pedregal township and Jarabacoa in La Vega province, included the reconstruction of its north approach -which had been swept away by the swelled Constanza river, as well as retaining walls and abutments to protect it from similar situations.
The construction company Zaiter, in charge of the work on the bridge, also repaired a part of the highway, damaged by the flooding which also leveled four houses and downed power lines in Pedregal.
The bridge also links the communities Paso Bajito, La Pita and La Jagua, among other villages.
Public Works minister Víctor Diaz instructed his personnel to keep the equipment working in Jarabacoa until traffic in the zone had been restored.
