Santo Domingo.– Twelve US companies are interested in
importing Dominican grown mangos, reported the Center for Exports and
Investments - Dominican Republic (CEI-RD).
According to the report, the US firms are based in New York,
New Jersey and Miami. The Dominican mango has become a hot agricultural
commodity, with different varieties of mangos including Keitt, Kent and Tommy
Atkins mangos. There are also local varieties such as Banilejo, Gota de Oro,
Yamagui, Juan Jaquez, Madame Francis and Puntita.
The Dominican Republic averages US$3 million in mango
exports per year. During the first four months of the year the country exported
US$518,874 worth of mangos.

this is great news......mangoes were not shipped to US markets before,,,the down side mangoes will probably become a little more expensive locally in the short term

The headline should Say Haiti to export mangos to the US.
We all know that the Dominicans buy their mangos from us. The Dominicans uses too much fertilizers and non natural chemicals to enhance productivity in result their mangos taste like crap. Just like the Mexican mangos. If you want the best tasting mangos go to your local farm market and ask for Haitian mangos por favor!

I'm from Baní (the mango capital), and I think we have the best mangoes. Yep, thoses mangoes that I personally picked from my grandfather's backyard and uncles' farm definitely did not come from Haiti. We don't need to import our mangoes, we have enough right here.

Well I know for sure D.R has its own variety of mangoes but I'm also sure that Madame Francis is a Haitian cultivar that is known in the U.S market and is exported to the D.R.

There was a similar rumor in the early 80's that the CIA was spraying Cuban crops to destroy the sugar industry, but this came from ultra leftist fellow travelers, not the Cubans themselves.
