The varieties in Expo Mango.
SANTO DOMINGO.- A business desk for the purchase of Dominican mangoes was established with 11 United States buyers during the festival Expo Mango 2008, held in the park of the city Baní (south).
National producers and buyers from New York, Florida and New Jersey signed the contracts, whose amounts weren’t divulged, after which, the buyers visited the major mango plantations in Baní and the hydrothermal treatment plant in Moca (north).
Producers grouped in the Dominican Mango Cluster said they expect the second hydrothermal treatment plant will be built in Baní to spur exportsm as announced in the 2007.
"Expo Mango 2008" took place this weekend and visitors tasted diverse varieties grwon in the Dominican Republic and bought plants.

GC believe it or not, Haitian mangoes have dominated the market in NYC for many years. Yes your friend B will have a fit, but i do believe that Haiti could have done more to increase their production of mangoes over the years....It might be too late for them now, but I do wish them well.

Sajomero....Just because the Dominicans have managed to expose a few mangos overseas that doesn't mean they run the industry. We Haitians still have the mango lingo down packed and we are not giving it up. DR is not superman you know they can't produce everything. If you haven't already noticed DR is to tourism while Haiti is to Agriculture. That's the way that the International Community wants it and that's just the way it is. More and more Haitian products are on the shelves of your local organic store haven't you noticed?
From: United States
That is good news for the DR.
The more agricultural products are exported the better for every single person in the country.
It brings money into the DR and it does not leave.

It is hardly a matter of exposed ...Dominican mangoes were illegal to import to USA until not to long ago....get ready to be swamped in Mangoes Z man

India dominates the mango industries with over one thousand different mangoes. As far as I have seen Haiti has fewer than ten varieties. By just using my mind I can count up to over twenty varieties of mangoes in DR. If that is truly the case DR will be putting good mango business competition.
From: Haiti
Let me use a cliche phrase: Its not the quantity but the quality. You claim it is less than ten varieties in Haiti but I guarantee you that several are regionally prized on their taste (of course including the very good Madam Francis). I'm also an avid mango consumer because they're just so damn good..lol. The mango business is not something to be played with in Haiti.

why do we not have chutney ....I love mango chutney

Yet another insecure apple venting his frustrations on a topic with no connection to immigration or sovereignty or even history but to what did you say? Yes, mangos. What a pitiful shame how these antihaitianistos can be. Why don't you shut up carbelk. Its really sad how most of you claim that you cannot stand even thinking about Haiti yet you just love bringing up Haiti's problems on every article. For godsakes we're talking about fruit and you still manage to bash a country. You people make a career out of this.

shin,
You can talk all you want on how good haitian mangos are. I could talk all I want about DR Mangos as well. the only reason Dominican mangos were not being exported to USA doesn't mean Dominican mangos were not good. I believe the issue was just political.
as for variety, India has the upper hand because they have the largest variety.
if that's a given, then all you need is a variety.
as for my preferences, I like all kind of mangos, but Mameyitos are the best I believe.
From: Spain, Sanlucar de Barrameda..Coto Doñana
mangos were illegal to import from the DR because of an insect they have to be iradiated and India more or less invented the mango and my beloved chutney .....they were brought to the caribbean like many other fruits in the 1700s
From: Haiti
JCjua I never said Dominican mangos are no good and I expect they are very good (same island so there you go). I was just informing those that don't already know about the Haitian mango market in the U.S and the highly praised Madam Francis cultivar which tastes very good (just on taste not on where it comes from). My comment was to carbelk and his squad that always insult Haiti and Haitians on articles that have nothing to do with Haiti and its relation to the D.R.

You guys need to stop that nonsense dominican vs hatian drama. Haiti is our neighbor and like it or not it plays the same drama for dr likke immigrants in the u s a they discriminate and harass but can't function without them. Let us all thanks the hatian for those pretty buildings in la acaona and every single construction job done in dr be because if it was up to us Dominicans taking 3 hours Lunch brakes and making puentes everytime a holiday comes by forget it. The war between us happened years ago and is a done deal

Goulet, to get good mango chutney you will have to swallow your pride and get it from a British west indian island. chutney is big in india, and is some sort of british thing. any of your buddies in Guyana or Trini can probably get you some good stuff. if you go to the trouble, get some guava jelly while you are at it. sadly, the DR has magnificent raw fruits and dismal fruit preserves. the orange marmalade and guava jam made here is unsaleable in any other market, i am sad to say.
From: Spain, Sanlucar de Barrameda..Coto Doñana
yes it is incredible how bad they are considering the quality of the fruit ...it is just the public does not know any better and is unfamilliar with quality
From: United States
did i write that , or did that come from you, Goulet? in New York i can buy fruit preserves from a company called Grace, located in the island of jamaica. they rival anything from Crosse and Blackwell and the other top british manufacturers. here, i have to try to swallow Bon and Baldom. talk about cheese and chalk!! besides, with such magnificent grapefruit, where is the local copy of Ting?
From: Spain, Sanlucar de Barrameda..Coto Doñana
Ting my heart sings....what a product ,I discovered it as a child and loved its natural quality but it might be an aquired taste for people who are into the super sweet rubbish that kids drink
From: United States
Goulet, i am yet to speak to anyone who has tried Ting and does not like it. i am sure such aberrations exist, but they are diminimus and inconsequential in the grand scheme of things!!
From: Spain, Sanlucar de Barrameda..Coto Doñana
There is a story about the lady in st Kitts who was going to punch out her next door neighbor and confronted her she said {try to imagine west indian dialect}...".you are telling everyone my man has a ting on his ting and now i gonna mash you up" the neighbor replies " I did not say your man had a ting on his ting I said it felt like he had a ting on his ting "
From: Spain, Sanlucar de Barrameda..Coto Doñana
Well unfortunately I felt the same way about this product but what happens is some one gets distribution and then puts it to sleep or the big boys sqeeze it out when it starts to make any progress ...also as I recall there was a grapefruit facsimile called Wink but not as good for a few years...in fact it was a ripoff even in its look
From: United States
i remember Wink; it should have been called Weak. it was no where as good as Ting. but i would prefer drinking it to Red Rock rojo!
From: Spain, Sanlucar de Barrameda..Coto Doñana
red rock rojo ! yes I would rather die a horrible death
From: United States
that is a horrible death!

comparing dr and Haiti with the conflicts between japan and china. There are about two millions Haitians living in dr respected or not, one Dominican can't walk in peace in port au prince
From: Spain, Sanlucar de Barrameda..Coto Doñana
I was referring to the depth and complexity ot the problem and they are very similar in that sense...Japan and Chiina.....DR.and..Haiti
