SANTO DOMINGO.- As part of a business tour of Spain, Italy and Switzerland, Tourism minister Felix Jimenez met with major tour operators and media executives, to strengthen contacts and present the Dominican Government’s numerous efforts, through the Tourism Zones Infrastructure Executor Committee (Ceiztur).
In a press conference in Zurich Jiménez said Swiss tourism in Dominican Republic’s market grew 7 percent between January and May, and 25 percent just in May, compared with the previous year period. He said the tendency will probably continue in the 2008/09 winter season, given the increase of flights to the country.
Among the projects the official mentioned is Salamandra Spas in Canoa, Barahona (southwest), being built at a cost of around 25 million dollars, with an initial investment pf 800,000 dollars, expected to open in 2012.
Jimenez said the complex will have 1,000 rooms, convention center, tennis courts built to international standards and therapeutic hotsprings.

Apparently there is a problem with delivery and jetliners may not be able to get jet fuel and or aviation fuel.
