Just like the skyscraper, cement prices reach for the clouds.
Zoom Picture

SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominican Portland Cement Association (Adocem) yesterday justified the jump in the price of cement, alleging that just as any other sector the construction industry isn’t immune to the world’s economic crisis.

Yesterday the price for a bag of cement rose 45 pesos to as high as RD$275 in hardware stores.

In a statement Adocem said the situation has led them to adjust the price of its different products, which together with rises in rebar, paint and wood, have caused a lull in the construction industry.

It said the rises and fluctuations of the cost of energy, fuel and transport impacts their operations. It cited increases of over 160 percent in the cost of diesel and coal in the last few years.

Yeah, he took Cemex from Mexico, the biggest company in the sector, and a company from Holland and a French company.

This was a strategic move.

Hugo doesn't put with the bourgeoisie's price gouching.

If the bourgeoisie, especially a lousy foreign one, can't run the means of production in an efficient and modern manner, then let the proletriat run things.

It is the proletarians' country.

THE BEST WAY TO SOLVE SUCH PROBLEMS IS TO NATIONALIZE.

THE COST SEEMS HIGH, BUT GIVEN THE RATE AT WHICH THE BOURGEOISIE STEALS, THIS COST IS A BARGAIN.

Caracas, Aug 20 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan authorities reported total normality in the cement industry Wednesday, one day after the government took control of the sector as part of a development program.

Oil and Energy Minister Rafael Ramirez said the domestic cement industry is operational since French company Holcim, Switzerland's Lafarge and Cemex (Mexico's) became state-runned.

Finance Minister Ali Rodriguez said Venezuela agreed to purchase 89% of Lafarge for $267 million, and 85% of Holcim for $552 million.

CEMEX asked the government to pay $1.3 billion for its operations, a sum unacceptably high.

Caracas said it will unilaterally set the price for Mexico’s CEMEX in case no agreement is reached.

That is funny.
Most "free" press outlets are reporting that many projects have been put on hold because of Chavez's actions. And the the Plants are at a standstill.

The proletariat is already running these cement companies in Venezuela even though the increasingly proletarian state in Venezuela hasn't as yet paid the capitalists for the companies.

The proletariat can and will run the companies in a more efficient and modern manner than the bungling bourgeoisie.

Here's the message for those who can't read between the lines:

Those who have the initiative and talent to start a new business do so and then we will steal your business from you at whatever price we feel like paying. After that, we will run it into the ground. All in the name of our glorious communist philosophy

How in the world do people with half a brain even believe a small part of this nonsense?

Anyone who listens to this commie moron is missing some screws or those screws were never tightened in manufacturing...

Furthermore, he [Venezuelan Energy Minister Rafael Ramírez] pointed out that work groups will be created in order to know and solve workers' problems regarding benefits, labor liabilities, and contracts, as well as to deal with environmental issues and technological improvement, which will require an aggressive investment plan.

Minister Ramírez asked Cemex workers to change their white helmets for “revolution's red" helmets "From now on, workers will use red helmets, as happened with oil nationalization. You will be the symbol of national sovereignty."

In symbolical events carried out in diverse cements plants simultaneously, the Government recovered the cement industry, exercising its sovereignty right after the negotiation period ended.

“Private interests can not be above our people interests”, Ramírez said in a short speech addressed to a great number of people attending to the take-over ceremony.

Wrong the best way to bring down prices is stop the protectionism of the industry and let them compete openly. Allow the ability for others to have licenses to make cement and get rid of the monopolies that control the industry.

The most intelligent comment to date:

"Wrong the best way to bring down prices is stop the protectionism of the industry and let them compete openly. Allow the ability for others to have licenses to make cement and get rid of the monopolies that control the industry"

The best example of this is the break up of Ma Bell (AT&T) If not for that we wouldn't be able to afford the Internet. And the technology wouldn't be close to what it is. Thats all due to competition.

We would still be in the stone age, oh kinda of like Cuba and N.Korea and surely soon to be Venzuela and Russia is right behind them if they don't straighten up.

Break up those monopolies and send all the lazy Commies to Siberia.
