Santo Domingo Metro columns for elevated section.
SANTO DOMINGO.- For more than two hours last night president Leonel Fernandez analyzed with the Government’s construction cabinet officials, the ambitious infrastructure works announced in his speech on Saturday, including a second Meter (subway) line, overpasses and train between the capital and Santiago.
The ministers of Hacienda Vicente Bengoa, of Public Works Victor Diaz Rúa, Supervisory Office director Felix Bautista and National Housing Institute director Alma Fernandez, among other officials participated.
After the meeting Bengoa said every participant described the works slated for the next four years, but clarified that some of them will be contracted via concession. “The works the President announced aren’t going to be done in one or two years and that must be programmed."
He said the Government will finance many works announced by Fernandez, either with internal or external funding.

Here is a chance for Belial, our resident commie stooge to say something to refute this very moving presentation about the results of the reign of terror and loss under Hugo. If he doesn't care to try at least maybe he could tell us what is better under Chavez.

Well guys I may not be the foremost expert on Venezuela, but having lived and worked there from 1998 until 2004 I think I have a pretty good insight as to what goes on there. My wife and I have been trying for the last 3 1/2 years to get her oldest daughter out and we think it is very close now. Getting her a passport was a phenominal effort. If you read the pro gov, and gov websites they are full of all of these programs they have going and yada yada, blah, blah. But the reality is ..... no work, hyper inflation, shortage of food and products, crime is sky high if you read some of my earlier posts this morning under another tpoic. 47 murders in 20 days in a state that has a little over 1 million people. I keep inviting him to go with me to visit my in-laws and to let him walk around the barrio and speak to the locals but I think he is scared to death of what real socialism brings.

Here is a story on how things are going in Venezuela under Chavez. Barcelona is the capitol of the state of Anzoategui, Puerto la Cruz is the city next door to Barcelona. 47 deaths by small arms fire in 20 days in a state that has a little over 1 million people. Socialism at its best, no work, no money etc.

If you people where a poor person living in a Venezuelan barrio ( which the majority of Venezuelans are) and you are suddenly offered food subsidies and free health care then I'm sure you would see the allure of socialism. Of course if you're a foreigner who only lives there in short burst while on business or one of the Venezuelan bourgeoisie then of course you wouldn't like what was going on, remember everything depends on your point of view, and there is a reason why Mr.Chavez keeps getting RE-ELECTED. (because the majority of his people prefer him, maybe they could teach us Americans something about democracy) Cheers!

Short bursts, 1998-2004 a short burst. I will have you know my wife is from a barrio-Sector agua potable arriba, Pozoules, Puerto la Cruz. We still have a house there and visit at least 2 times per year and stay in that house. The problem from the point of view from a person who lived there is he has destroyed the country. He has been in office 10 years now and there are more poor people and more Barrios than before his first election. Inflation and lack of jobs has progressed steadily in the last 6 years, under his rule. The free medical care that you spoke about is from Cuban doctors that have only been there the last three or four years. The food handout started as a measure to combat the chronic shortages incurred by the regular grocery stores because he cut off thier access to dollars and they could no longer buy prouducts on the international marketplace. You are right it depends on your point of view, but the view from someone who lived there....

not short term. And he did NOT WIN THE LAST ELECTION. He is gone after this term expires, more than 85% turn out voted him out. The vast majority of them POOR. He is a certified idiot who has taken a once vibrant economy and destroyed it and is still squandering Venezuelas money supporting the countries of Cuba, Nicaguarga, Boliva, Honduras. Take care of your own first then help others.
