Russians had landed on the North Coast of the DR about 4 years ago. We have big russian investments here for a while. No big news for me.

My rental condo is rented to a Russian and he is a nice fellow with a nice family.

Money doesn't seem to be an issue so it is possible the money is questionable.

Don't trust the Russians. We are very close to the USA and Russia is looking for instability in this area. Russia hates democracy and always trying to impose Russia doctrine by force. yes, Josean, they see what is happening, but they are getting financial benefits from the selloff, so what do they care? soon, foreign flags will be flying above dominican flags at the airport. soon, dominicans will own just a few acres of the hinterlands, which foreigners find impracticable for their purpose.i already mentioned that the germans tried to buy up all of trinidad and tobago, but the government smelled the rat and put a stop to it. they even decreed that a german, when selling his house, had to resell to a trinidadian.but we let folks come in from russia and own entire tracts of suburban , and beachfront properties. and we know how much these russians adore people of color!

i am aware that property is cheap here , relative to other islands. but, with the kind of money these guys are slinging, a couple hundred thousand here or there means nothing. these are not guys operating on shoestrings. they are not retirees who worked for the post office or the Motor Vehicle Department. these are big players. they can buy property in downtown monte carlo just as easily as they buy a farm in sanchez!

I agree with you 100%, thanks for input......Idea ! instead of ownership why not try a 99 year lease like they do in Mexico, the idea that foreigners can buy Property with out Dominican Citizenship or a Dominican Resident Card and have the same rights as Dominican Born, That's a problem to me....

mrios, i see nothing racist in that post. the DR has got to be one of the most beautiful lands on earth, and the temptation to purchase property here will always be great. anyone who goes to places like las terrenas will be tempted to secure a little piece of paradise. but there has to be some regulation. people ought not be allowed to pop into the country on a one week vacation and end up buying large parcels of land. that is what invites dirty money, and creates parallel real estate markets.

United States acepted millions of people from around the word, including Dominicans helped them to start a new life allowed them to own real estate etc , As a country USA benefited from 200
years of this policy. Why not get billions of dollars from American or International baby boomers looking for retirement ? We will pay real estate taxes, You will get employment, better schools, hospitals, supermarkets etc ?

All must remember that Russia is the largest country in the world. They own land from Poland to The northern Pacific Ocean. Does anybody think they bought that land? No, they acquired it over the last 300 years by moving in, and little by little annexing the teritories to theirs. Another thing that some may not realize: The proximity to Cuba on the north coast of DR. Remember the Cuban Missile Crisis? Well, Russia has threatened to deploy ICBM's in Cuba, again. And currently, Russia is conducting war games in Venezuela. So, as quiet as it's kept the Commies are coming back with a passion. And they said that the "Cold War" was over? Go look at Georgia, and tell me if it's so! My suggestion is to be very suspicious of these "Kamrads from the Urals", they are shady characters. If you don't believe me ask someone who has lived in Brighton Beach. Things changed since the 'new mob-ish jews from Russia' took over. Be careful who you sell to!

I think you missed the point, the real ISSUE IS owning property from foreign investors and having the same rights a Natural Born Dominicans Citizens, Dom. Rep. is the only Country in the World that does this nonsense that I know of ....THAT'S THE REAL ISSUE. As far as American History goes I suggest you watch and highly recommend the 4 part series / Documentary "How the West was Lost " the true account of Manifest Destiny, from Sea to shinning Sea, I hope this will answer any questions you may have.

mrios, thank you for that post. there are some guys who post here who celebrate all this INVESTMENT. i wonder which planet they are living on. do they really think that these guys have come half way around the world to live in a country which is so different from theirs, because they like it here? yes, they might enjoy the beauty, but it is not as though they like the country. their antipathy to people of color is legendary. i have a friend who associates loosely with them, and knows a tiny bit of how they operate. a few of them have actually confessed to him that they could never "see them selves associatimg intimately" with a dominican, whom they regard as inferior species. given their well known proclivities to organised crime activities, and violent recriminations against people who cross them, the fun will start when they are firmly established.
