Santo Domingo.- The Dominican footwear industry, through free zones, experienced a 25 % growth in the first half of the year, compared with same period of 2007, which means exports of over US$52 million to the US market.

According to the US Customs Department, this growth has a key importance for the country, since China –the world's largest shoes producer and exporter to the US market– fell by 2 percent.

Dominican footwear exports to the United States ranks 11 worldwide.
