SANTO DOMINGO. The Senate’s Health Commission chairman said that he’ll submit in today’s session a bill to increase the doctors’ salaries from 25% to 30%, sustained on raising the taxes on the National Lottery tickets and to other gambling.

Luis René Canaán, after clarifying that the legislative piece doesn’t include taxes on credit cards issued by the banks, said that added to the 15% raise ordered by president Leonel Fernandez for government workers last year, the increase for the doctors would reach around 45%.

The Hermanas Mirabal province (north) senator said the increase is quite significant to overcome the already more than the year long conflict.

He added that to fund the increase several sources of financing were discarded, among them the tax on credit cards, since it would’ve been a double taxation and a new tax on their profits.

Taxing Gambling?
It's like Taxing Prostitution?

The problem is that in DR it seems as if all Doctors are government employees;
Which is a lesson in itself (low pay-low health) for those that promote an Universal Social Medicine Program.
Here's another point that this bring to mind;
Taxing Gambling: It's a taxing issue when you gamble on someone's health!

Wow, they're going to shake up the Legal Numbers Racket?
The one where the "infelizes" fantasize their pesos away. Great start!
That's what I call responsive representative gentler and kinder government. Thanks for the 1000 pesos.

Taxing Prostitution might not be such a bad idea. Obviously, you're chances of collecting from the individual transactions might be slim, but increasing taxes on businesses that benefit , such as nightclubs, stripclubs, massage parlors, hotels and whoever else is the beneficiary.
