Santo Domingo.- The Economist will bring together senior Dominican Government officials, the country’s and the region’s business, political and economic leaders and analysts, for an open dialogue in March to discuss the impact of the global economic crisis on the region and the Dominican Republic.
Dominican Republic isn’t isolated from the difficult economic situation that the other countries in the region face, as the demand for goods and services in the country has already begun to decline.
“The Dominican Government, aware of the situation, has shown its willingness to discuss with the private sector the strategies that will diminish the damage in the economy," said Anna Szterenfeld, publisher for Latin America of the Economist Intelligence Unit. “The Table of Businesses of The Economist will contribute to this important dialogue."
Among the topics the conference will analyze: To what extent will the fall in the global demand affect the export and tourism sectors? How can the Dominican Republic take advantage of the DR-CAFTA and EPA agreement with the European Union? What are the perspectives for the infrastructure, technology, tourism, real estate and telecommunications sectors? What are possibilities that the reforms on energy can materialize and how will it affect businesses?
