Got a Bentley?

Zoom Picture

SANTO DOMINGO. - Chamber of Deputies’ Health Commission president Victor Terrero said the bill to increase the health sector’s wages still isn’t finished, and to raise those salaries by 40%, license plates of luxury vehicles, lotteries tickets and betting parlors will be taxed.

In the 2006 tax reform Congress passed a tax increase on the tags for vehicles, from which some of them pay as much as 100,000 pesos.

He also said there’s a possibility of taxing license plate renewal labels for luxury vehicles, and that he’ll meet with the leaders of the Dominican Medical Association in the next few days, and later submit it to the Senate for approval.

Congress stepped into the fray of the doctors’ salaries, which sparked several strikes that affected thousands of patients across the country.

Pretty amazing there are more and more Bently's all the time.

What is funny is that the ones that are driving them live US$ 300,000 apartments and drive a $150,000 car, we used to have name for that but that name became socialbly unacceptable.

Or like the guy wearing Armani and he lives with his parents..

Why does this surprise you? This is the same country where people wii forego meals in order to buy an outfit for the next fiesta. I've seen similiar behavior time and again ever since I've had use of reason. Dominicans are enamored with appearances.

You would have meltdown of your pacemaker if someone made a prejudiced remark against the Jewish community and rightly so, but when it comes to us Latin Americans it is ok to lump us together and denigrate us .

And josean who is the famous Baron Munchhausen?
"According to the stories, as retold by others, the Baron's astounding feats included riding cannonballs, travelling to the Moon, and escaping from a swamp by pulling himself up by his own hair (or bootstraps, depending on who tells the story)"

You can't base it on one individual but if you lived in a jewish community for some time I would be inclined to take into account your view of the people you lived among. A people themselves are not a good source for their shortcomings. Sometimes it's more obvious to outsiders.

Oh no! Only in the DR.

DR is full of 'New Money'. I'd rather be in the presence of thieves than new money people.
Many that buy this kind of car will pay more for the car than the home they live in. Priorities again!

I recently visited DR and had the unfortunate experience of mixing with some of these types.
Just 20 minutes, of the dull conversations about, Cars, Apartments, iPhones, Foreign Holidays, The Acropolis and I wanted to have them all shot and buried someplace remote. No taste, no understanding of the word 'subtle' and worst of all how they like to consider themselves white.
There wasn't a white amongst them, everyone of them somewhere along their line, had a grandmother that enjoyed riding Leroys gristlestick.

If they want to spend money on a Volkswagen with a Bentley badge, let them pay, pay, pay and pay again. I would make them buy the car and pay a Doctors salary for the year too.
In a perfect world it should be the Doctors driving the Bentley!

How about if the politicos take 1 day off from pillaging and looting the country's coffers, just 1 day. I bet it will be more than enough to cover the 40% wage increases proposed for the physicians. Just because there are people that can pay for this car even in an atmosphere where the other 99% of the populace cannot, doesn't mean they should be punished by paying more simply for their ability to be able to. The economic shortfalls are the product of rampant governmental corruption yet everyone else is expected to shore up the differences and share the inequity.

Even though taxing rich people's toys is a populist measure, it has the opposite effect historically on
increasing tax revenues as the rich will stop buying or they will find a way not to pay the duty.
Many innovative scams will sprout up like : contraband, tax free diplomatic exonerations, temporary stay permits, civilian exonerations (legislators, judges, retired military, prosecutors, and so forth), under valuation scams, and others.
Lest not go back to the sad days of high taxes where the income to the state actually was much less than now.
The populist idea sounds good but in practice is a step backwards.
Whenever I see a Bentley in the road I just admire the car without making a judgement or moral valuation on the person driving it.
Personally I would never own that car if I did have the means to purchase one. In the DR you do need a high up SUV so when it rains you won't have to stay home until it passes because of the streets getting all flooded up.

Those who are rabidly jealous of the rich are just that: jealous.
I a society where successful entrepreneurship is rewarded and admired many choose to spend their moneys in hedonistic pleasures and we should not condone them, it is their free will and unfulfilled desire.
Sometimes I see many baseball players or other high paying athletes spending their money on several expensive cars instead of investing more wisely; and then I wonder if 10 years from now they will have any money left. But it is their choice just it is their choice to wear expensive jewelry laden with diamonds and gold. I would not be caught dead wearing that but it is their choice.
Even in communist China the new rich were buying more BMW's and expensive items than the rest of the world put together.
You will not see a Ramon Corripio driving a Bentley as he knows better and his fortune is for keeps, not transient. Yet you can not legislate his right to do so if he so chooses.

Never smoke Cuban Cigars. I don't support Slave Labor nor put money in the Castro brother's Swiss bank account.

I shoot various. .45 1911A1 and it's variants. Ruger Blackhawk in .45LC with custom loads for hunting. Also a .20 gauge for quail Hunting.
I own some of those evil "assault rifles" as well to piss off liberals.

I once asked 'New Money' if she enjoyed Beluga Champagne. She said it was fantastic. In the same conversation, I also asked her if she had ever tried Bollinger Caviar - she proceeded to tell me it was her favourite brand.

Now - that is new money.

I find the comments that condone the rich doing exactly what they want very funny. That they 'deserve' what they have. Thats fine with me, lets all do what we want and balls to any sense of sharing or living in a civilised society. Anyone with wealth that takes this attitude must be stupid, as if we used there own mentality against them, then those without would be justified to just overpower them and take what the wealthy have. Its a matter of the strongest survive - and in most cases the weedy lawyer would get slaughtered by the gorilla that cuts cane all day long.

If you're wealthy - shut up - don't rub your cash into the faces of those that don't have it.
Have some respect and give some thought for your fellow man.
