Lima. - Chile and Peru are the Latin America and Caribbean countries best suited for investment, as well as to finance projects, according to a report disclosed today which tanks Dominican Republic in eighth place.
Edgar Ortegón, ex official of the Economic Commission Latin America and the Caribbean (Cepal), said Chile occupies first place, followed by Peru, Brazil, Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, Uruguay, Dominican Republic, Jamaica and El Salvador.
The specialist, quoted by the official agency Andina, said the global financial crisis spurred the region’s governments to allocate 136.4 billion dollars in public investment, and provided more importance for the region’s National Public Investment System (SNIP),
Ortegon noted however that the situation also allowed the detection of weaknesses because these are "atomized" in many countries. “In addition, in reiterated occasions they fell in the inertia of old practices or "abuses of the new modalities,” such as the participative budget.

Common Guys...Have you considered the countries that are ranked 1 thru 8.
Chile: Highest GDP in the region, top 20 least corrupt countries in the world, equal or better health system than the US.
Brazil & Mexico are economic powers in Latin America; Brazil is currently one the three hottest and fast growing emerging markets in the world.
Costa Rica: Equal or better health system than the US, 50+ years of progressive political stability and strongest democracy in the region.
Colombia is 10 times larger than DR and holds the 4th largest population in the Americas.
Peru has an ancient and important historical heritage compare to Mexico and Egypt. And Uruguay is well educated, within the top 25 least corrupt contries and borders two super nations: Brazil and Argentina. We are lucky that we ended up # 8.

The IMF has much confidence in the DR's economy and believes that growth is around the corner. The DR, it believes, will be able to service its loan from that growth. An IMF study says that the DR will be one of the best economic performers over the next five years. It says that, starting next year (2010), the economy of the DR will begin to grow at an average of 5.2 per cent over the next five years to 2014. This will make it the third-best performer in Latin America after Panama and Peru.
