Santiago. – The partnership RJS Group Republica Dominicana announced the creation of one of the world’s most important and modern agro-industrial complexes, with an investment of more than US$500 million to produce ethanol, electricity, feed, organic fertilizers, oils and other by-products.
The group said it has more than 900,000 tareas (56,700 hectares) of land in the northwest provinces Montecristi, Santiago Rodriguez, Dajabón and Valverde, to grow sweet sorghum, sunflower and soybeans, to generate more than 400 million liters of biofuel per year and more than 50 megawatts of energy.
In a gathering with Santiago media representatives, the executives, headed by Francisco Batista, presented a group of technicians graduated from the universities Harvard, Oxford, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford, and also consultants contracted from Brazil and India.
In a statement given to the press, the executives said evaluations are currently being conducted in five field experiments with different varieties of seeds of sweet sorghum from Australia, United States and Brazil.
It adds that the company plans to plant more than 56,700 hectares in the Northwest, leased from individuals for 30 years, to obtain electricity and other products.
