Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic obtained approval on Wednesday of a US$500 million loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), to support social programs and streamline energy subsidies, Reuters reports.
"The country will use the IADB financing to increase spending on targeted subsidies, education, health care, and the Solidarity Program, a conditional cash transfer plan for the poor," the IADB said in a statement.
Reuters adds that the Government also plans to use the loan to better target payment of liquefied petroleum gas subsidies and streamline electricity subsidies.

Hell I'd be happy with that.
But these clowns will go buy more SUVs.
Why in the hell would you give a country as corrupt as the DR this kind of money when there is NO accountability. Flying over barrios and throwing the money out the window would be better spent.
Fools.
HERE......WE GO AGAIN...SAME OL S$$$ AGAIN. Who's gonna this one back ?
The DR has sufficint funds to move forward with its own internal revenues however these funds are drained into the private coffers of the elected officials instead of going to its intended course to the people and for the people.
Its like giving more candy to a bad child in the hopes that maybe these hippocrites will see the error of their ways.
I personally am against donating any funds to a corrupt goverment like the DR because it only leads to more corruption.
Pretty interesting.
Doesn't the IADB have any Anti-corruption laws when they give this money away?
Otherwise they are just paying for drugs to be shipped to the DR. The poor will NEVER see this money.
What about the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act?
The Dominican Republic can NOT meet those standards.
This is totally corrupt.
