Mexico City.– Visiting Dominican Economy Minister Temistocles Montas on Friday asked Mexico to help Dominican Republic explore its oil and gas resources to reduce its heavy oil imports.

Montas said at the Ibero-American Conversation, an event organized by the Ibero-American Organization, that Dominican Republic would like help from both Mexican state-run oil giant Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) and Mexican private companies.

"Our idea is to reach an agreement with the Mexican authorities," he explained. "We would view with interest that Pemex, or any other Mexican firm, that could help our nation develop gas and oil search policy."

According to Montas, some international private companies had unsuccessfully searched for oil in the Dominican Republic.

Oh what will be our life without our nonsense commies. Lopepe what do you care if DR want to explore with another oil producer country its own resource. See what I say about the commies' mentality. They don't believen in country but their backward idea. Mr Lopepe is an example for all of us to see.

I truly hope they don't find any such natural resources during LF's term.......they would be sure to graft most of the proceeds!

Aren't there more knowledgeable oil and gas explorers than the Mexicans? I really would prefer engaging someone more knowledgeable and trust worthy, such as the Dutch or the Brits. We have our hands full with indigenous corruption, and probably couldn’t cope with infusion of foreign corruption simultaneously.

Potential oil and gas deposits?
There may be some, however I doubt we can find quantities that can be claimed as commercially viable. The most common oil reserves are those found in river deltas, any other form may turn costly to explore and exploit. With that said, our island lies hundreds of miles from any important river delta (Orinoco, Mississippi, Colorado, Amazon, Magdalena). Yaque del Norte and Artibonito are just small streams of water on a tiny piece of land.

And what strings are those compared to those that Venezuela, Russia or China attaches?

Mexico to assist in the search for Oil? Guess how found the Mexican oil?

Ha ha ha! Look what I am reading now some skeptic dudes transformed into believers. I still remember what some of you were saying when I told them to stop vomitting their stomach on us Haitians, and to, on the other hand, ask why their country and mine are sitting on a larger oil field than the Venezuelans and we are still classified as poor third world countries.
Instead of talking nonsense like a bunch of school children, ask yourself why your government, since 1982, has discovered an exploitable oil deposit off of Azua in its coastal waters, and it took it 30 years to announce to you the gas sleepers that it is about to exploit that oil.with Mexican help. Leonie is bluffing, only the chinese, the Brazilians and the Russians have actually t he financial resources it takes to invest in deep sea exploration and drilling.

No, open your eyes, American giants like exxon and chevron won't tap that reserve right now because it's cheaper to buy from opec and others than to go drilling.
The United States after mapping all the important deposits (we have more than 20 in haiti alone), have declared then part of their strategic reserve. That is why the Dominican Republic and Haiti can't sell their oil.
If you don't believe me, why doesn't your government sell it to the Chinese who are willing to not only pay cash, but they will even help you pay your debt to the IMF, therefore allowing your country to have a fresh start like they did in Bolivia and Ecuador.
This is an issue that is being debated back home now and the people must know why they are the richest in the world and still going hungry and poor.

I have been knowing about the Oil in DR for years, it's a vain from the oil that runs in Venezuela...
It is one of the reasons why Trujillo wanted Batencourt killed. There was an dispute over the oil.
Recovering the oil would be expensive and the oil it self allegedly is rich with sulfur.

Blutardsky, AKA John AKA GC AKA gaycuban AKA old bag of bones aka Batista Boot Licker...

there is oil in DR, just that the Americans have said to DR, "shhhh, keep under the lid for now and don't worry we will supply with all the oil you need. Let's keep it for the future reserves". Only problem is it supposedly belongs to Venezuela. So in the distant future this will be fighting grounds for the control of this oil. Another Iraq so the great US of A can put another puppet here.

“it's a vain from the oil that runs in Venezuela...”

I did not know that you were a geologist. There is no such thing as a vein that runs from Venezuela to the island of Haiti. I think you the Dominicans are as much wonder stories believers as us Haitians. Oil is found in big underground reservoirs my friend, and if it is the truth that a huge deposit can overlap the border of two countries, it occurs very rarely. Trinidadian oil has no connection with the one in Venezuela, and the oil deposits in Haiti might be isolated from the other deposits found around the island.

There can only be dispute between the Haitians and the Dominicans for the oil deposits on their island, however, disputes like that are always settled by an international court like it has been between Nigeria and Cameroon.

Retrieving oil is more expensive from the sea bed than on land, and the cost is always lined up on the international price of crude oil and on the demand. Right now there is a huge demand and the amount of oil around the world is dimming constantly. Therefore, it is the best time to explore and, if found in enough amount, to exploit. The amount of sulphur in the oil lessens its value, that is the truth, but it is worth to exploit, because Nigerian oil is filled with sulphur too.

But the one million dollars reality check is that the United States won’t let Haiti and the Dominican Republic tapping their oil for sale, because as I said, they consider our oil like their strategic reserve. When they will start to exploit it, their dollar won’t worth anything, and we will be short changed when they will start drilling and tanking our oil for cheap, while the Chinese are willing to pay right now in hard currency.

The United States through the IMF and the World Bank have grabbed and secure all the raw material they need in the third world, countries like Haiti, which are defenceless or heavily integrated like the Dominican republic, can’t do nothing than to watch their natural resources be virtually squandered right under their nose.
