Santo Domingo.– A Dominican subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell PLC has sold its 137 gas stations across the Dominican Republic to a Barbados-based fuel supplier.

Friday's statement from Shell does not reveal the cost of its deal with the Sol Group, which was formed in 2005 through the purchase of Shell's petroleum distribution and marketing businesses in several Caribbean nations.

It will allow the Sol Group to continue using the Shell brand under a licensing agreement.

Last year, the Dominican Republic paid $110 million for Shell's stake in the Refidomsa refinery on the outskirts of the Dominican capital in a bid to stabilize fuel prices.

who knows? For all we know, the present President of the DR formed the Sol Group with all the $$ that was siphoned off.......and he and his family can really retire in luxury after he leaves office....this happens all the time in DR. People in power buy and sell, and buy and sell what rightly belongs to the Dominican people.

Smart move by Shell. The only successful businesses in the DR are run by corrupt officials. If anyone else starts making any money especially a foreigner the corrupt ones will show up asking for their piece or to make trouble. After all this time the Dutch fully know this and are getting out while they have the chance.

Yes, Veronica, that is how the "system" works down there.

Shameful, isn't it? And people complain behind closed doors, but they aren't willing to fight for their rights.....look at how the Venezuelans came out in the hundreds of thousands, or the Iranian people in the hundreds of thousands, to protest.

Dominicans don't like to bleed. There are no more "patriots" left, like Salome Urena, and the founding fathers. It's every man for himself down there. LIke the Wild West.
