PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti. - Economy minister Temístocles Montas proposed in Haiti to create the Permanent Forum of Dominican-Haitian Political Parties, to spur bilateral relations. “We’ve been working on this idea for some time in Dominican Republic because we feel this would help consolidate and maintain a more stable and fluid relation between both countries.”

Montas, speaking during a meeting with Haiti prime minister Jean-Max Bellerive in his residence Friday night, said the opposition PRD party supports the proposal.

Bellerive said he favors the initiative, and warned that there’ll be no future, stability or peace between the two countries which share Hispaniola, if a positive relation isn’t reached.

Montas, who visited Port-au-Prince for 24 hours as the Prime Minister’s guest, said he’s convinced the forum would be fundamental to bolster Dominican-Haiti relations.

“We\re here to reiterate this willingness to the Haitian Government, but also to convey president (Leonel) Fernandez’s message that we are working to reach the best relations between both countries.”
