SANTO DOMINGO.- The Industry and Commerce Ministry today announced that the country’s major cement-makers will charge RD$10 less for a bag of their product starting Wednesday.

It said the lower price took effect staring Tuesday, and that it expects it will show in the final consumer price.

In the last four months the bag of gray cement has fallen 20 pesos. “After several meetings between Industry and Commerce minister Jose Ramon Fadul and cement companies representatives, a decision was reached to lower the bag of cement at least 10 pesos and prevent new unjustified increases."

Industry and Commerce added that the Government is concerned with the rises in the price of cement, and warned that if the situation continues, it could prevent people of low income from buying or building their houses.

What is the base-line cost on a bag of cement and what is the relative % price reduction?

The RD Gov is still many years late on moving on this as there has already been a full swing contraction in the construction industry.

Government says a bag of cement costs 10 pesos less

And how much is a key going for these days?

It's all over town you have "rock bottom " prices there.

So much about our "Free Market"
In stead of arranging "lower prices" in a strip club or where ever this meeting did take place,
what about opening the market to imports so we will pay about half of the local prices ?

when those crooks hear the word import of cement prices started to go down, it is only for a few month until the news goes away and them back to jacking up prices. Since those elements have cuna in they will never approve any law that will eliminate their monopoly. great. ha; there would be no change people.

"if the situation continues, it could prevent people of low income from buying or building their houses."

Since when have low income people had acces to buying or building houses? just calculate how much people (with a minimum wage of around RD$6,000/month) have to pay to a bank on a montlhy basis for a RD$500,000 loan.
